POPSUGAR MustHave September 2016

Back when I used to be a paid subscriber, I always looked forward to September boxes. Firstly, because September is my birthday month, and secondly because September 2014 box was probably my most favorite MustHave box I’ve ever received, and last year made me wish I had subscribed, too, when I saw other people’s reviews. This year, POPSUGAR MustHave September 2016 box delighted us with another great selection of hand-picked goodies, and I am super happy I had the opportunity to try it as a POPSUGAR Select member [bloggers: check out the network here].

CONTENTS:

1 // Jack & Lucy Bicoastal Wide Brim Hat [$58, exclusive] – I vaguely remember receiving Jack & Lucy tech gloves and winter hat in previous boxes, so I am not surprised at all to see this brand again. While I think the SRP is a bit obnoxious, the hat looks like it’s well-made and will fit a wide range of head sizes and hairstyles. I for one plan to rock it this fall as long as it’s not too windy, because the hat runs a little large.

2 // NCLA Mani-ER Tool Kit [$16, available here] – I’ve been using the same pocket-sized mani kit from Tweezerman for about 5 years now, and while I’m happy with the tools, it kind of looks embarrassing to take out in public. Not that I would ever do my nails in public, but it’s just so worn and old I don’t even want my close friends to see it. This is where my new Mani-ER kit comes in! I immediately stashed it in my purse after taking photos for this review 🙂

3 // Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask [$36, available here] – You think you’ve seen enough samples of this mask in your beauty boxes? Bam! This month we got the full-sized tub! Honestly, guys, this jar is huge, it’s like salon-sized. Speaking of the product itself, I bet most of you who subscribe to beauty boxes have already tried it, because this mask is seriously everywhere these days, but if you haven’t, you’ll be happy to know it’s actually a great product and helps soften and detangle after just one use. My hair gets seriously knotted when I use sea salt spray to achieve the trendy beachy waves, and this mask was a lifesaver.

4 // Flint Lint Roller [$9.99, available here] – I’ve been looking for a good lint roller to remove Luna’s hair from mine and my husband’s clothes, and we look forward to giving this one a try. To be honest, I didn’t open it yet aside from taking it out of the plastic packaging, but it sounds like fellow bloggers who got this box found it pretty effective. The roller comes in sleek platinum tube and feels very lightweight, making it perfect for carrying around in a purse. I don’t know about you, but I definitely don’t need any more bricks in mine as it’s already so heavy, airlines would force me to have it checked in 🙂 Just kidding, but my husband does make fun of me all the time because of it, haha!

5 // Smith & Cult Lip Lacquer in The Warning [$22, available here] – I am not a fan of Smith & Cult nail polishes, but their lip lacquers are bomb. They are more pigmented than typical lip glosses, but less so than liquid lipstick, so they create this beautiful jelly-like finish on the lips with a juicy wash of color. The Warning is a classic warm red with very subtle shimmer, and it looks amazing on the lips: not too bold, and not too subtle. I think it’s the perfect everyday shade for those who like to wear red lips, but feel bored with the same old lipsticks all the time. Besides, highly glossed juicy lips are on-trend again, as recently seen on NYFW runways.

6 // The Gluten Free Bites Dark Chocolate Coconut [$4.99, available here] – These look very much like the coconut bliss balls I make for myself as a snack sometimes, except these also have a chocolate center. My oh my, these bites absolutely delicious! Made witout GMOs or dairy, these vegan, gluten-free treats are perfect for a midday snack. I wonder if I can find a recipe for these somewhere?

BOTTOM LINE:

I think this was a great box for me, but I can see how some people would be disappointed. I am very excited about the hat, I think it looks great and super flattering! At the same time, I know that not everyone wears the style of clothing that goes with a very classic hat like this one. Same with the lip gloss, which I absolutely adore as a red lip lover. Red is still considered by many to be a bold makeup choice, so while I am totally thrilled to get this particular color in my POPSUGAR MustHave September 2016 box, those who prefer minimal makeup or very neutral-looking shades would probably be bummed. So, objectively this wasn’t the most universally awesome selection, but it couldn’t have been more perfect for my personal preference. Usually I re-gift a thing or two from my boxes [and a couple times in the past I had to gift an entire box], but this time I am keeping everything for myself. I still think the price on that hat is crazy high for what it is, wouldn’t you agree?
