POPSUGAR Must Have Unboxing and Review: July 2013

I received my July box pretty early, usually I get it mid-month, but now that they’re actually shipping from NY it only takes about 5 days to get here. I’m not sure what this month’s theme is, because I threw away the product card and the official box reveal isn’t up on POPSUGAR’s site yet, but the products we received are all very summery… Well, except the dog collar. What dog collar? Read on!

Doctor T’s Supergoop City Sunscreen Serum SPF 30
If you read my looooooooong post about sunscreens a few weeks ago, you probably know that I take them way too seriously. I have tried samples of this serum before, and loved it to pieces! Unfortunately, I could never justify buying the full size, because, honestly, who would spend over $40 on a small pump bottle of sunscreen? Okay, millionaires will, but most of us here aren’t 🙂 It’s super light, which is perfect for my combination skin, especially during the summer months, when it gets shiny and oily very quickly. The ingredient list is great, and I didn’t find anything particularly harmful in the formula, so it gets my seal of approval.

Mighty Leaf Iced Tea Ginger Peach
I made this today and both my husband and I really liked it. We tried it unsweetened first, but both ended up adding some honey into our glasses to sweeten things up. The peach taste is very strong, which I personally like, and ginger is very muted. Each bag can be brewed at least twice.

HannaMax Baking Cookie Chips
Yummity-yumzy-yum! These cookies were delicious, and the chocolate lover in me was squealing in delight. They’re thin, crunchy, super chocolatey, and finger-lickingly good 🙂
Overall: 5/5
Purchase: Yes

Tovolo King Cube Tray in Hot Pink
More like in “Popsugar Pink” am I right? After reading some reviews about the July box online it sure seemed like I’m the only one who didn’t already have an oversized ice tray. Well, now I do and it’s really cute! I made ice cubes to go with our Mighty Leaf ice tea, and they worked really well. I like that larger cubes take more time to melt, so we actually had them swimming in the pitcher for a while. Pictured next to NCLA full-sized nail polish to show you the size of that thing.

NCLA Nail Polish in As If!
It’s a little late for pastels methinks, since I usually associate them with early to late spring. But I guess not everyone wears nail colors seasonally, so I might be alone in this. Not going to lie, the application was a bit hard, and my nails looked terrible, with streaks and uneven layers all over. But after I applied a nice thick coat of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri, somehow all that madness got evened out and set with a beautiful glossy finish. I will feature this polish again in my Mani Monday post next week, with some nail art included 🙂
Overall: 3/5

BaubleBar Rose Double Curb Chain
I don’t quite get this chain, I mean I guess it’s kind of hip right now and everything, but it certainly brings me wayyyyyy outside of my comfort zone. I’m more into delicate pieces, with thin little designs, like little birdies on a branch or litle arrows, antlers and bows. I included two “swatches” with a work shirt and a plain white T so you can see how it looks. I’m still undecided if I like it or not, or if I will even wear it outside. What do you think, should I?
Overall: 3.5/5
Purchase: No

The verdict: This box was actually kind of useful more than anything. I like that I got the oversized ice cube tray, and some ice tea to go with it. I will also enjoy the sunscreen during the time that’s left of this summer and all the way through late fall. I’m totally unsure about the chain, and I didn’t quite like the nail polish formula.

I think I’m the MOST critical about PSMH and I don’t get why everyone is meh about the necklace. I loved it! I think it looks great on you. My vote: WEAR IT.

Thanks Brandy 🙂 You know we are our own worst critics, and that’s why I wanted to hear everyone’s opinion about the necklace.

Thank you for the encouragement, Jackie, I will certainly try to layer it with some of my dainty pieces. I’m totally new to oversized accessories, so I had absolutely no idea if this looks good at all 🙂

My box came the other day. I was unsure about the necklace too, but was feeling brave so I wore it out with a black dress, and received tons of compliments. The next day I wore inside the open collar of a button down shirt, and it looked great that way too.

I devoured the cookie chips – delish! And I love the ice tea too!

Good to know I wasn’t the only one baffled by the necklace, but I’m glad it worked out for both of us in the end, haha 🙂
