Pau d’Arco Ginger Chai Wellness Mocktail (recipe)
Have you heard of pau d’arco tea? It’s made from the inner bark of Tabebuia trees that grow in Central and South America. For generations, indigenous tribes in the area have used the bark as a natural remedy for various conditions and as a general wellness tonic.
Potential wellness benefits aside, pau d’arco tea is delicious and worth trying just for its flavor alone. It kind of tastes like black tea, cocoa, and very mild chai spices, and it has a pleasant, slightly sweet aftertaste. I normally don’t even use sweeteners with it because it’s yummy all on its own. I enjoyed drinking it hot and iced, and today I wanted to share another creative way you can use pau d’arco. I hope you enjoy this bittersweet citrusy wellness mocktail with a bit of a kick from crystallized ginger pieces!
Ingredients (for 2 mocktails):
- 2 packets NOW® Pau d’Arco Tea
- 2 fl oz club soda
- 2 kumquats, halved
- 2 tsp NOW® Organic Crystallized Ginger Dices
- 1 tsp NOW® Organic Agave Nectar
- 4 drops NOW® BetterStevia® Liquid Chai Spice
- (Garnish) ground cinnamon, 1 kumquat thinly sliced
Instructions:
- Brew 2 packets of NOW® Pau d’Arco Tea and kumquats in one cup of boiling water for 5 minutes.
- Add the brewed tea, NOW® Organic Agave Nectar, and NOW® BetterStevia® Liquid Chai Spice to a shaker, top with plenty of ice, and shake vigorously until the liquid is ice cold and frothy.
- Meanwhile, place a small ice cube and few pieces of NOW® Organic Crystallized Ginger at the bottom of each glass.
- Pour iced pau d’arco into the glasses, and top each one with 2 fl oz club soda.
- Top each drink with any remaining froth from the shaker, kumquat slices, and and ground cinnamon.
