One Radiant Unboxing and Review: June 2013

I picked up another beauty subscription – One Radiant. Their promise is to send out dermatologist-approved skin care products tailored to your specific skin type and concerns. At $12/month this is a pretty affordable subscription, so I decided to check it out and see if I like it. After taking the skin survey everyone is assigned a certain skin type, and will receive the monthly samples according to their profile. If you don’t like what you got, simply re-take the skin survey and enter different answers to get the types of products you want.

About One Radiant:

According to the survey results, my skin type is CIII – that probably stands for Combination and the number III for my UV resilience. So, here are the products that were handpicked for me by One Radiant.

Atopalm Intensive Moisturizing Cream
This is a fabulous moisturizer, it’s very rich and emollient, and makes the skin feel very comfortable and nourished. However, I found it to be a little too heavy for my combination skin, so I think I’ll retake the quiz to make sure I’ll get lighter products in the future, because I think this particular formula is better suited for people with normal to dry complexions.

Elta MD UV Facial Broad-Spectrum SPF 30+
This would be a good sunscreen if only it didn’t contain petrolatum. I try to avoid petrochemicals in my skin care routine, so I will not be trying this sample. Other than that, the ingredients look promising, and for anyone who doesn’t care about petrolatum in products, this will make a good sunscreen.

M2 High Potency Skin Refinish 20
This facial treatment contains a powerful formula for purging the dirt out of the pores, so I’m expecting to break out as I continue using it every other day (kind of like what you get from a Clarisonic brush for the first couple of weeks). So far I used it two times, and I can tell that my skin looks smoother and more even in the mornings. I’m actually petty excited to see the results!

Purchase: Yes

Karin Herzog Eye Cream
At first I thought this eye cream was too heavy, but it absorbed well after I gave it some time. The formula contains several plant extracts as well as retinol to combat under eye dryness and wrinkles. After putting it on I immediately felt like something started working over there, my under eye puffines seemed to slowly deflate and I felt a slight cooling sensation all over my upper and lower lids.
Overall: 4.5/5
Purchase: Yes

The verdict: I was fine with the June selections, but decided to alter my skin profile a bit for the next box, because I want to receive higher SPF and more oil-free products for my combination skin, and maybe a cleanser or an exfoliant. So from now on my skin is type CII: combination and requiring higher level of SPF. We’ll see what I get in July!
