Ever heard of SheaMoisture? Nubian Heritage is their sister brand with slightly more affordable prices. Started by two college graduates Richelieu Dennis and Nyema Tubman, Nubian Heritage is set to promote natural healing traditions from around the globe, with main focus on ancient Nubia. The line includes indigenous ingredients like shea butter, african black soap, black seed oil, mango butter, lemongrass, tamanu oil and chai.
In today’s post I want to introduce you to a range of their fantastic bar soaps. I got to try three varieties: Carrot & Pomegranate, Ivorian Cocoa Butter, and Peppermint.
Carrot & Pomegranate Soap Bar contains Calendula Extract and Cranberries, and based on the description, it provides restorative, nurturing, and anti-aging properties, although for me personally it’s all about the fragrance. This soap has the strongest scent of the three, and to me it smells heavily of pomegranate with sweet florals, with faint traces of carrot.
Ivorian Cocoa Butter Soap Bar contains Milk Chocolate and Hazelnut Oil, and is designed to help firm, moisturize, and smooth the skin. This formula contains finely grated pieces of hazelnut that offer gentle exfoliation. I can’t really smell the hazelnut, but both milk and cocoa scents are very apparent. This soap is also my favorite of the bunch, and I use it when I need to relax, instead of eating sweets. After all, chocolate without calories is pretty awesome, right? 🙂
Peppermint Soap Bar is pretty unique, because it contains Crushed Almonds and Baking Soda. Baking soda, huh? I only used it in cooking, cleaning, teeth whitening, and as a main ingredient in bath bombs, so I wasn’t sure if my skin will start getting fizzy or something. Happy to report that no fizzies were observed, but the bar does seem to lather better than the other two. The fragrance was supposed to be minty, but I think almond overpowers everything else, and being an almond maniac, I sometimes take a bar off the bathroom shelf just to sniff it. It smells almost like L’Occitane Almond soap and shower oil, so if you are a fan of that scent, you should definitely check this one out.
These soaps all foam easily, creating mountains of creamy lather, and leave the skin almost squeaky clean. Normally I would consider that over-cleansing, but despite my expectations, my skin didn’t get itchy or tight, which is a very good sign. Each Nubian Heritage soap bar is generously sized and comes in its own box, making them easy to wrap, if given as a gift. These soaps are vegan, and cruelty-free.

i’m a bar soap fanatic so I’ll keep my eyes open for these. I haven’t seen them in local stores near the Shea Moisture, I assume, yet. I would have passed on the Peppermint since peppermint oil is drying for me, but I adore anything almond too so I will give it a try!
So far I’ve seen them at Walmart, so you might want to check there. And trust me, that peppermint soap smells more like creamy almonds with just a trace of peppermint. I expected it to be very minty myself, and was very pleasantly surprised with the outcome.
I usually don’t use bar soaps but my husband doesn’t mind them. I’d love to smell the carrot and pomegranate one though!!!
I think you will like it, it’s the least “edible” of the three and reminds me of some perfumed body mist or something.
I love good soaps and especially when they lather. Great prices!
Agreed! Generously sized and the prices that don’t bite, what’s not to love? 🙂
I love bar soaps, and all of these sound awesome to me.
You and me both, Nidia! I’m a big fan of bar soaps myself, and always stock up on my favorites.
carrot & pomegranate sounds so intriguing!
Haha, I was pretty intrigued, too, that just sounded like a very interesting combo, and something I’ve never seen before.
These sound so nice! I’m not a bar soap person though.
I understand, I didn’t used to be into bar soaps until 5-6 years ago, but the older I get the more I appreciate them, especially those handmade soaps you can buy from little indie shops. I think it’s an acquired taste kind of thing.
Gorgeous pics, you’re making me want to try this!
Thank you Brooke, you are so sweet 🙂 <3 Definitely try the chocolate one, it’s really nice!
I’m not much for bar soap – but I’ll try them 🙂
If you do, let me know what you think of them 🙂
I rarely use bar soap anymore. However, I am using a lavender soap made by a company right here in Denver! These seem very tempting, however!
Oh how nice, locally made products are always the best! I like supporting local small businesses too, especially if they use ingredients either grown or produced in our region.
These look super nice. Unfortunately I’m not really into bar soap! I prefer liquid.
I understand, I used to only love liquid soaps myself, but a few years ago something snapped in my head and I started buying solid ones, too. Love the convenience of liquid soaps and washes, though!
I rarely use bar soaps, but I still buy them .. we have a little stash! The price is great
Haha, that’s funny! I actually use bar soaps a lot, but end up buying way more than I need, so I got a stash here, too lol.
These sound so fun!
They totally are, especially the chocolate soap.
Not really into bar soaps but these sound lovely
They’re quite nice! They look great in the bathroom and make the whole room smell good.
It’s a shame they have palm oil, otherwise they would be lovely.
Sorry to hear that you can’t use them.
I´m not really a fan of bar soaps, but I might try some of these.
Let me know what you think if you end up trying them. These might change your perspective on bar soaps, like LUSH did for me a while ago. I didn’t used to be a bar soap girl either.
I am not a fan of bar soaps… but these sound awesome.
Take it from a bar soap junkie, these are really great!
I do like a bar soap now and then, especially with nice ingredients!
Agreed, not all soaps are created equal and some are definitely better than others. I don’t like soaps that dry out my skin.
These soaps are making me hungry. love natural products.
Haha, you’re right, they do look quite appetizing 🙂
My husband only uses bar soaps!
Haha, so does mine! He thinks that body washes are wasteful 🙂
Peppermint would be great for winter!
Totally! It’s not really in your face minty, it’s more of a creamy almond with a hint of fresh mint, but you’re right, it’s a great fragrance for the Holiday season.
If I wasn’t so sensative to scent soaps I would love to pick a few up
Hi Betzy! Are you sensitive to fragrances in general or just to the chemical ones? These soaps are naturally scented with vegetable juices and essential oils. I’m a scent sensitive person, too, and didn’t get a headache from either of these three.
I really like bar soaps, I love the fragrances they come in and they feel great on my hands. Carrot Pomogranate sounds freaking yummy!
I know right? That scent combination is nothing short of genius, I would have never thought of pairing together carrot and pomegranate.
