My First Wantable Style Edit Review

It’s been a while since Wantable added Style Edit to their family of monthly subscriptions, but this month was the first time I tried it out. I used to buy their makeup boxes, accessory boxes, and my personal favorite intimates box, but had to cancel them all when I downsized my subscriptions. Wantable waived the styling fee in December, so I decided to give their new service a try.

HOW IT WORKS: Wantable Style Edit is a personal shopper service – for a $20 styling fee a specially designated stylist will put together a package full of fashionable items, all according to your style profile. This fee will be applied as a credit toward anything you keep from your shipment, and if you choose to keep it all, you will get an extra 20% discount. Keep what you like, and send back everything you don’t want within 5 days in a convenient prepaid envelope. You can choose either to get a one-time fix, or to subscribe on a monthly basis. Click here to check it out

The idea is the same as Stitch Fix – for a small fee a stylist will pick a few items based on your sizing preferences. Unlike automated services at Birchbox and Ipsy that reference your beauty profile very vaguely, Wantable Style Edit shipments are curated by actual people who take all details into account. I wanted my first box to be on the safe side: nothing too crazy, just some basic silhouettes and colors. It turned out a little too safe, perhaps. See for yourself!

My shipment included five items with a total retail value of $314.00. Not too shabby! I used to buy expensive clothes back in Moscow where the use of coupons is considered embarrassing [talk about cultural differences!], but since moving to the US I turned more into a bargain shopper, so getting all five was out of the question even if I liked everything.

I got four long-sleeved tops and one solid bottom:

1 // Open Back Woven Top Navy SKU 62458-A $59.00 – A lovely blouse with a modest front, and wild open bottom. I loved it, but the material felt a little scratchy for some reason. Nothing against the fabric itself, but this wasn’t a good example of polyester done right. Returned.

2 // KLD Long Sleeve V-Neck Tunic Ivory SKU 61395-S-Ivory $49.00 – This shirt seemed too big to be an S, but that’s beside the point. This is a very basic long-sleeved tee made of soft jersey, and honestly it felt really nice and cozy, but at the time I just didn’t feel like spending that kind of money on a super basic item that I will most likely only wear at home anyway. Returned.

3 // Tunic Shirt White SKU 62091-A $52.00 – The blouse felt well-made and fit me just right: not too loose and not too snug. I wasn’t quite sure about it though, because wearing blouses like this one is just not my style. Would I consider altering it a bit to accommodate for this piece? After mulling it over, I came to a conclusion that I probably won’t wear it as much as I think. Returned.

4 // Cowl Tunic Grey SKU 62056-A $65.00 – Honestly, this tunic wasn’t my style at all, so I knew I’ll most likely return it before I even put it on. I also wasn’t a huge fan of the material and the color, they looked a bit depressing to me. Returned.

5 // Kut Mia Toothpick Skinny Black SKU 61199 $89.00 – I really liked these pants, naturally! Wanna know why? Because I already have a pair of these in my closet! Yes, the price might seem a bit too high for some, but honestly when I bought my first pair I thought it was totally worth it. These are the stretchiest and most comfortable skinny pants I own, and they feel amazing to wear. Plus, they are very flattering! If I didn’t already have a pair, I’d buy these all over again. Returned.

As you can see, I ended up returning my entire order. Nothing against the products themselves or the stylists: I wanted to play it safe, and safe I got. After I sent over my product ratings, I got a reply that with each round of feedback the curators will better understand my likes and dislikes, so the boxes will progressively get better and better. Can’t wait to see what they have in store for me next time!
