Milani released several brand new lip products as part of their Spring 2014 Collection, and in this blog post I wanted to share my review and swatches of Lip Intense in Red Extreme shade. Lip Intense is a unique product, it’s basically a buttery lipstick in lip gloss-like tube with a wand applicator, and I don’t think there was ever a lippie like that in Milani lineup.

Milani explains that Lip Intense “applies like a highshine gloss, but has the longevity and wear of a lipstick to provide shockingly intense, super-shiny, full lip color”.

The tube packaging, as I mentioned before, looks just like a lip gloss, with a flat fluffy wand that scoops just enough product for an even and opaque application. I really wish the wand was a differemt shape, like a pointed doe foot or at least slightly angled.

Ultra-pigmented formula smells buttery and even a little sweet [vanilla’ish?], which reminds me of my favorite Korres Lip Butter. I fully expected it to start feathering on me, but surprisingly the contour of my lips stayed nice and even without any additional tricks. Another great thing worth mentioning: Lip Intense doesn’t stain your lips, despite being highly saturated, and the removal is extremely easy using any available makeup removing  product you have on hand [even plain soap will do].

Red Extreme can be described as a vibrant, bight red with cool undertones, and it’s the perfect shade to wear if you want your teeth to look whiter. It applies smooth and even, and sets with fantastic sateen finish. The wear time can vary depending on whether I snacked or not, but on average I’d say 5 hours or so is a fairly good estimate.

P.S.: Lip Intense contains petrolatum [mineral oil] and I try to be very cautious about that particular ingredient in my lip products. I thought I should mention that just in case you care, too.

THE VERDICT
For $6.49 Milani Lip Intense lippies are practically a steal! Their super pigmented and buttery smooth formula sets with lovely sateen finish, providing 5 hours of fade-proof wear. Unlike most highly saturated lip products it doesn’t stain the lips, and once the color is smudged off, it will reveal your true lip color underneath. The only complaint is the shape of the applicator, it could have been better designed IMO.

Phew, that is so….red! It looks good on you. I tend to default to less adventurous colors…every so often I’ll try something a little more dramatic, but I just never like it on me, it just strikes me wrong, so I keep the lip more neutral and the drama on my eyes…

Uhh, I know right? It’s like POWWW RED kind of red! I’m really not a bright lip kind of girl either, or at least I wasn’t until very recently, and now I feel like I want to experiment more 🙂 Maybe you should give it a shot as well!
