For those new to Memebox, My Cute Wishlist boxes are *supposed* to include an assortment of products housed in adorable packaging. Unfortunately, the only really cute box was the first edition, and then things just went south. This third edition was clearly inspired by dolls, however, I stopped finding them cute after I turned seven. But what am I babbling on about, I’ll let you decide if this box deserves to be called cute or not.
HOW IT WORKS
Memebox Global is not a typical subscription service. They periodically curate boxes filled with assorted beauty products popular among Koreans, and those Limited Edition bundles are sold on first come first serve basis. Prices vary depending on the type of the box. Memebox ships internationally, so make sure to check on their website and see if they ship in your country – chances are they do. All themed boxes tend to sell out fast, so by the time you read this review this particular box might not be available for sale anymore.

Shara Shara Fairy’s Makeup Synergy Sun Cream SPF45 PA++ – So right off the bat, here’s the gem of this box! I just can’t look at this bottle with a straight face, I think it’s creepy and hilarious at the same time. That plastic top reminds me of those cheapo Barbie bubble baths I played with as a kid. Try turning around the hair and hold the cap just below the hair line for a sight you cannot unsee. That’s not something I would post on this blog though 🙂
How to use: Apply evenly over your face as a last step of skincare routine in the AM, and pat in for full absorbance. Also works as a makeup primer.
Now let’s talk about what’s inside this monstrosity. Memebox says this cream is not heavy and absorbs well, but compared to most sunscreens I received in other boxes, this one feels much lower quality.
Shara Shara Kissing Sugar Lip Scrub – I guess it looks sort of cute, bordering childish. There are cutesy things I wouldn’t feel ashamed for taking out of my purse in public, but this lip scrub is not one of them.
How to use: Scoop a small amount of lip scrub and gently rub your lips with it, then wipe off with a clean tissue.
It’s also not that great of a lip scrub. It’s still a lot better than Pure Smile chocolate scrub I got a few months ago, but the aftertaste is just awful. Memebox says that we should wash it off with water after using, but I just wiped it off with a tissue – much better that way. Anyhow, I had to toss it, because I didn’t like the packaging or the formula.
Hope Girl Tinted Lip Balm 03 Hot Cherry – I already received this lip balm before, but thankfully it was a different color. I think if it came in a regular bullet case I would’ve liked it a lot more, because it actually feels nice on the lips and adds a lovely hint of color; but I just hate finger-dipping in that jar. Not to mention that it stains my fingers, so it’s quite inconvenient.
How to use: Apply to lips with your finger or a brush for a subtle pop of color.
I don’t know why Memebox decided that this lip balm is cute, if anything, leopard print is considered “sexy”. After all, it’s the favorite pattern of Guess, Cavalli and other fashion brands that make clothes for bombshells.
Youngwoosa Oh! It’s Lovely and Soft Cream – I’m weird and I think this jar is actually pretty cute, there’s something artsy about that packaging design that speaks to my aesthetics. Now as far as contents go, this buttery moisturizer reminds me of Steamcream.
How to use: Warm the cream between your fingers then spread it evenly over your face and gently pat in until absorbed.
It has that creamy whipped texture that spreads well but doesn’t fully absorb, leaving a thin dewy layer on top of the skin. I think it would work well for those looking for some extra nourishment, but it’s a tad rich for my taste.
ddung Family Foam Milky Cleansing Cream – There were two variations of this cleanser sent out – Milky and Fruits, and I’m glad I got the Milky one, because I already have enough heavily scented cleansers, so this one will be neutral enough to use on those days when I have bad migraines and can’t tolerate anything even mildly perfumed.
How to use: Lather the cleansing cream between wet hands, then apply it to the face, massage in for 30 seconds, and wash off with warm water.
Ddung is actually a name of a very popular Korean doll, they are a huge brand, sort of like Barbie or American Girl over there, everybody knows them. They come in different shapes and sizes, and lots of custom outfits. The company also makes fan merchandise targeted for young girls, so I’m guessing this is something from that line, and I’m fine with that. It’s probably not the best quality cleanser, but I find it fun being able to try something that I know is crazy popular in Asia right now.
Tonymoly Red Cheeks Girl’s Patch – I think this duo of cheek patches is adorable! it’s designed to calm and moisturize dry red cheeks, and I totally get that during those cold months in Michigan.
How to use: After cleansing the skin, apply these hydrogel patches to dry skin areas. Remove after 20-30 minutes, and gently pat in the remaining essence until it’s absorbed.
Memebox specifically said it’s meant for dry skin relief, so I doubt this product is designed with sensitive skin or rosacea in mind. One lady on Makeup Talk forum said that she tried it and her redness got even worse, but she also mentioned that her skin is super sensitive.
THE VERDICT
Out of six products, five had some kind of a girl’s or doll’s face on them, and one didn’t belong in a Cute themed box at all. Out of six products only two were actually cute [for me, at least] – Youngwoosa cream and Tonymoly cheek patches. I’m also getting a bit tired from getting Shara Shara and Hope Girl products, I’m sure there are better drugstore makeup brands they could have included, like Etude House or Tony Moly. So, to sum it up, I was pretty disappointed with this box, and will likely never order any more Cute editions. What about you?
P.S.: Just FYI, this is not the best representation for Memebox, and I honestly loved about 90% of the boxes I received so far, but flukes happen and this is one of them.

Ohh this box is cute but it does seem a little bit more on the childish side of cute~ ^ w ^

It certainly does look childish. I’m sure there are people who would like that, but it’s just not my style 🙂
I agree. It is perhaps too cutesy and more of a tween-style subscription box. I think it would be very well received by tweens. The sun cream is adorable, but definitely not for me. Too bad the Hope Girl lip balm stains your fingers, that’s the one thing I would have liked to try!
I am a Tony Moly makeup fan. That cheek patch looks adorable and of good use.
What a great review of this box. Your knowledge of brands and their product lines and influences is awesome. I definitely agree with you that it seems a bit childish – but sometimes it is fun to step out of our adult comfort zone.
I’m not a fan of the items in this box. Great honest review.
I think the cheek patches were cute and also the Milky facewash.
