I hope everyone in the US enjoyed their long Thanksgiving weekend! Today I’m sharing my review of Memebox Global #16, now that I had a chance to play with some of the goodies that came in it. We received six products, and one of them was a duo, so technically, we got seven. Not bad for a Global box! Let’s see if anything stood out, in a good or bad way.

HOW IT WORKS
Memebox Global is not a typical subscription service. They periodically curate boxes filled with assorted beauty products popular among Koreans, and those Limited Edition bundles are sold on first come first serve basis. Prices vary depending on the type of the box. Memebox ships internationally, so make sure to check on their website and see if they ship in your country – chances are they do. All themed boxes tend to sell out fast, so by the time you read this review this particular box might not be available for sale anymore.

Unni Recipe Vitamin Recharger Mist – According to Memebox product card, this mist contains six different vitamins and hyaluronic acid, so it brightens, detoxifies, and moisturizes the skin at the same time.

How to use: Spritz the mist over your face and body whenever necessary; it can also be used under or over makeup. Suitable for all skin types.

I think I would have loved it a lot more of this was a microspray, because packaged as it is right now, I always manage to make a wet mess on my face. I decided to use it as a toner and apply with a cotton round, because the ingredient list actually looks very promising.

Hair+ Velvet Nutri-Injection – At first I thought this tiny tube is a moisturizer sample, but it turned out to be a one-use hair treatment. Honestly, if your hair is shoulder length or longer, it’s just not enough product to really give it a good try.

How to use: Apply the contents of the tube throughout your hair after towel drying. Do not rinse. Suitable for all hair types.

According to Memebox card, this treatment is supposed to make damaged hair look healthy, but honestly, I didn’t really notice much of a difference. I’m guessing that’s because my hair is in a decent shape now, and the results are more noticeable on very damaged hair; or maybe one tube just didn’t have enough product in it to make a difference. Really, guys, it’s that small.

RiRe Style Black Head Brush Cleanser – Just when I was about to sigh about another cleanser that will have to be passed along to a friend or a relative, I took a closer look at the tip, and noticed a brush head, similar to my Foreo LUNA! The cleanser formula contains what the company calls a “black food complex”, that consists of black beans, sesame seeds, and black rice. Together they work to exfoliate the skin and absorb excess oil, while delivering nutrients deep within the pores.

How to use: Wash face with warm water, then pump out the formula and brush away the nose and any areas that seem to have clogged pores. Rinse off with cold water. Suitable for oily, combination, and normal skin.

I already love my LUNA, but it’s not very convenient for using in the nose area, which is what this cleanser is all about – clearing up those clogged pores from dirt and excess oil. There is a small button on the side of the bottle that pumps up the cleanser into the brush, but mine must be broken, because all it pumps is air. I gave up for now, because I don’t want to break it, but I want to try again soon and hopefully it starts working.

RiRe Skinny Black Head Closing Serum – This serum is supposed to be used after brush cleansing to close the pores. It contains green tea oil, papaya enzymes, and seaweed extract, that I love in my skincare.

How to use: Apply a small amount to dry skin after cleansing. Suitable for oily and combination skin.

Honestly, I am iffy about “closing my pores”, because the oil will still accumulate, but now that my pores are closed, it might produce some unwanted results, like those painful under-the-surface pimples. I think I’ll avoid this thing.

Elizavecca Schrink Lifting R Pro – Okay, you will never guess what this is. It’s a shrinking gel for … wait for it … cankles! I’m dead serious. Slimming patches are super popular in Korea, and I don’t know if those things actually work because I never tried one, but they seem a bit gimmicky to me.

How to use: Massage into calves, ankles, and feet when needed. Suitable for all skin types, except sensitive.

I really don’t like when my feet are cold. I don’t even care if this thing can make my permanently swollen ankles magically show proper shape after looking like logs for many years, because it felt like I just walked on solid ice in sub-zero temperatures. It’s painful. Brrrr!! Nope, nope, nope, I’m done with this thing. I think my Mom uses something similar, so this is definitely going to her stash.

Delskin Centella90 Power Ampoule – I was actually really excited to see an ampoule in my box, because that step in my skincare routine was unoccupied. I was particularly curious to see what the ingredient list looks like, since ampoules are supposed to be more potent than serums. I found a Korean ingredient list on the brand’s website and translated the whole page to see them in English. The result exceeded my expectations!

How to use: Massage a few drops of the ampoule into cleansed and toned skin. If you follow a Korean skincare routine, ampoules are normally applied after essence. Suitable for all skin types.

I’ve been using this ampoule for a couple weeks now, and it became an essential step in my routine. I wish I knew how it works, because my skin definitely improved since I added it to the rotation. I noticed fewer discolorations, less breakouts, and just overall a more even skin tone. It’s like it adds a little TLC to the whole routine and speeds up the effects of other products, or something. Either that, or it’s doing all the work, but in any case, this ampoule is amazing, and if you have it, you should totally try it. Or give it as a gift, but don’t be surprised if your giftee will call you later to ask where he/she can get more 🙂

Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream – Apparently this is some kind of a hot item that everyone is obsessing over, despite it being very inexpensive. I have way too many moisturizers right now, so I plan to give this cream to my sister. She has dry skin, and she never tried snail products before, so this might get her to try other Korean skincare. I hope she likes it 🙂

How to use: Apply to the skin at the last stage of your routine, and pat in for full absorbance. Suitable for normal, dry, and combination skin types.

THE VERDICT
Despite all the duds, – like face mist in a bad spray bottle, ankle slimming cream that I can’t use, a nose brush that won’t dispense any cleanser, and the pore closing gel that I also can’t use, – I really liked this box because of Delskin ampoule. It’s such a great product, I really hope Memebox starts carrying it in Memeshop so I could buy more. And of course I hope my sister is happy with her Mizon cream.

The Elizavecca Schrink Lifting R Pro is awesome and my favorite thing in this box. I use it on sore muscles like Tiger Balm or IcyHot and it works so well. I bet lots of people won’t give it a chance because of the “slimming” claim, I don’t know what that is about, but it works great on knotted calves! 🙂

Thank you for the comment, Susan! You’re right, the slimming part is definitely scaring me away, and maybe my feet are just super sensitive, because I couldn’t tolerate that product at all. I’m so glad to hear that it works like Tiger Balm, now I know that my Mom will definitely enjoy it for her achy feet.

I’d like to try the ankle shit and the snail cream. Weird, like that I guess. 😀

I really like using snail products, they are fabulous and work for all skin types 🙂 You should try a Memebox, Erika!

I have a $7 credit at Memebox, and I am yet to use it. I am overwhelmed by the whole selection process. Once I finally decide on a box, it’s sold out. I really enjoyed reading your review. It was both a hoot and very informative. The ankle slimming thing is just too funny. I generally like Korean skincare but I’m drowning in skincare products. And I’m kinda scared to try the makeup. Have you gotten any of the makeup boxes? Should I?

    • December 1, 2014 / 11:47 pm

Hi Allison! Yeah, that’s the thing with Memebox, sometimes you have to act quickly, or the box you want might sell out. To answer your question, I probably wouldn’t buy any of their makeup-themed boxes because the overall quality of Korean makeup we get from Memebox is lower than US drugstore brands. The only products I really loved were BB creams and gel pencil eyeliners, but you could probably just get those on eBay if you ever wanted to.

Thanks for your answer to Alison’s question – I feel the same way!

    • December 2, 2014 / 12:55 am

Glad I could help, Sheila! I know you love doing eye makeup, so I have to mention that all of Korean gel eyeliners I tried were comparable to, or sometimes even better quality than UD. They are certainly worth checking out!

Skincare-wise, I think Memebox has the most interesting product line up!

I think I’ve seen that ampoules at imomoco… I want to try the cooling ankle stuff! I love my peppermint cooling balm for my legs in the summer. The brush cleanser looks cool, too. I hope it gets fixed or replaced! I want this box!

  7. December 2, 2014 / 2:41 am

Oh – this is definitely full with a bunch of products I wouldn’t mind trying. Tons of skin care 😀

  13. December 3, 2014 / 12:27 am

OMG I totally need that blackhead brush cleanser! I took a pic like you did with a leaf a few weeks ago too, I haven’t even gotten the post up yet but we already have snow on the ground!
