More drugstore reviews for you, guys, and today I’m back with another product that quickly became everyone’s favorite. Maybelline Color Whisper lipsticks, released in Spring 2013 as part of permanent collection, are featured in 20 beautiful shades that range from nude to vampy, and come in various coverage levels.

I really like the packaging – the tube is lightweight yet sturdy, and the cap is easy to remove. It might seem like something unimportant, but sometimes it can be a bit challenging for those of us that have to do touch-ups with one hand while on the go. The caps show the color inside, which is nice if you own several of these and don’t want to look for the right shade longer than necessary.
Maybelline describes these lipsticks as “color pigments suspended in a weightless gel”, that contain “no heavy waxes or oils” to achieve “sexy, soft see through color [with] just a kiss of shine”; and I think it was a very accurate statement. Buttery smooth formula glides on the lips with ease, providing buildable coverage if necessary. And of course, I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t sniff the lipstick right away; to my pleasant surprise it had a very subtle fruity scent with just a hint of orange water; that fragrance, however, doesn’t transfer to the lips at all.
On the lips – “Lust for Blush” |
Lust for Blush color is a nice marriage of mauve, taupe, and pink [which shows up mostly pink on my lips]. I think it’s a great neutral color for everyday wear, especially if like mine your lips aren’t naturally very pigmented. Like I said, the coverage ranges from shade to shade, with darker shades being more pigmented. Lust for Blush is somewhere in the middle, and gives my lips full opacity after two strokes.
Longevity-wise, Color Whispers don’t stay very long – even if you don’t actively eat or drink anything, the shine will be the first thing to disappear, soon followed by the pigment. I tested it several times just to make sure, but the average life on the lips is about an hour, which is slightly worse than similar products in the same category.

THE VERDICT
To sum it up, I thought the packaging was sleek and convenient, especially the caps that show the color inside; and the range of available shades is impressive – there’s something for everybody. Of course I wish it lasted longer on the lips, just because I really enjoyed that moisturizing feeling, but the buttery formula has its limitations, and the brand didn’t make any claims about the longevity. The buildable coverage is a nice bonus, and it doesn’t look cakey even if you keep on adding layer after layer. And guess what? No mineral oil!

Beautiful color but I wish it lasted a little longer.
Me too, I hate constantly reapplying things 🙁
I like the Color Whispers, although you’re right, I’m not a big fan of reapplying, especially when I have a day of meetings at work. But these are great for on the go, need some color, and moisture, but not necessarily long lasting coverage. GREAT review, and you look beautiful, as always! Great color for you!
I agree with you, these are great to pop out of your purse and quickly touch up on the go. And thank you for the compliment, you are too kind, Judy! <3
They sound scrumptious, but I wish they lasted a little longer.
Me too, I really wish they lasted at least an extra hour 🙁
I haven’t tried the Color Whispers, yet. I have looked at them a couple of times but when I choose a shade I am interested in and check it, I find, to my dismay some nasty person has swatched it and put it back in the display. Yuk! 😛
Yuck!! D: I’d be totally disgusted if I saw that. Maybe you could try ordering online? I sure hope those come unswatched.
I LOVE this! It totally looks like my fave Burberry Cameo! And cheaper! I needs!
Oh my, Burberry Cameo is on my wishlist for sure!
I’ll admit I’ve been ignoring these because I thought they were lacking in pigment. Looks like I was wrong!
You weren’t necessarily wrong, Tina. It’s just that my lips are naturally VERY pale, people sometimes even ask me if I’m feeling okay. The good part about that is that I almost never need a lip primer, and lip products show up almost true to color.
I’m horrible at reapplying lip products, but I’ll probably still buy it because I love Maybelline’s lip products
You and me both. I like products that I can just apply in the morning and forget about them, at least until after lunch.
That colors looks great on you! Too bad it didn’t last very long.
Thank you Destany! I’m sad about that as well, even an extra hour would have made a huge difference.
I love this color but as did you, was bummed it didn’t last longer!
I know, right? Reapplying every 40 minutes or so is not something I want to do.
The texture just from the photos of the product looks amazing. I haven’t tried anything from this line, I may have to give them a try!
It’s really as buttery as it appears, I’d say it feels like a lip balm on the lips. You should definitely give it a shot, considering there are 20 colors to choose from!
Love color whispers! Great review!
Thank you! Always happy to share 😀
That color looks gorgeous on you! Love that close-up shot! I am a big fan of your pics 🙂
Thank you for the kind words Harshleen <3
It’s pretty on you.
Thank you!
Gorgeous shade on you!
Thank you Angela 🙂
So pretty! I love your face! 😀
You are too kind, Laura :)) I’m really camera shy, but I decided to show more of myself this year.
That’s really pretty!!
Thank you Shelley! I really wish the color lasted longer.
Pretty pink, but I think it’d accentuate my lip lines
Can’t comment on that one, since my lips have some lines, but not enough to be concerned yet. However, the coverage is buildable, and maybe one-two swipes won’t accentuate the lines?
I love these! 🙂 I have this color and it might be my favorite of the three I have. 🙂
I’m with you on that Carina, out of all the colors on the display at the store this one was my favorite by far. Such a lovely shade!
They are my favorite !
Glad you also like them, Betzy.
This color looks so stunning on you! It’s definitely one of my go-to shades 🙂
Thank you, Farryn. Good to know it’s one of your favorites, too 🙂
The color is beautiful. Shame it doesn’t last longer!
I know, right? I was so bummed, because I don’t like reapplying products all the time =/
