Mani Monday: NCLA As If! – Swatches, Review and Nail Art

I received this nail polish in my July POPSUGAR MustHave Box and at first I wasn’t sure if I want to use it or put it away in my gift basket. After closer inspection of the shade, I admitted that I don’t own any dusty lavenders and decide to give it a try.

All of NCLA nail polishes are 5-free according to the box, but in actuality they’re 4-free. They don’t contain Formaldehyde, DBP, Toluene, and Camphor. Another thing they counted toward the “5-free” is animal testing, which I think is a category of its own, since it’s not really an ingredient.

Oh well, whatever, now to the formula. I’ve never tried any of NCLA polishes, so I have nothing to compare with, but this one was a goopy streaky mess. Or “was” until I evened it out nicely with a good thick layer of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri top coat, so it worked out in the end.

This shade, “As If!”, is described on the site as a true pastel lavender creme, but to me it looks more like a gray dusty lavender pastel. I decided to spice up my manicure by adding some nail art elements to it. So what looks good with pastel lavender? I decided that pastel pink and pastel green and both great choices, so I used both of them 🙂

NCLA nail polishes retail for $16.00 and you can buy them here.

hmm definitely doesn’t seem worth the price tag and that 5-free claim is ridiculous! cruelty free is awesome, but that’s not a chemical. I love lavender but I’d stay away from this polish.

Hi love honest reviews. Just bought my very first NCLA nail polish (the teal one, Malibu Beach Babe). Though I had to get used to the creamy thickness no streaking in my experience.

According to their website they actually are 5-free, no dbp, toluene, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin nor camphor. So it’s deffo not that they count the no-animal testing as their fifth, that would be ridiculous indeed.

Thank you for the comment! On the site they properly list the 5-free ingredients, but on the box the bottle came in there were only four + animal testing. Maybe they wanted to be funny? 🙂
