LUSH Christmas 2014: Dashing Santa and Butterbear

purchased

This year Christmas came early, or at least my seasonal LUSH order did. It was a fairly small order because I only purchased a few things, and among them these two bath bombs – Dashing Santa and Butterbear.

Butterbear is actually a transformed version of Butterbomb, which is part of LUSH’s permanent collection. I was mostly curious to see if it’s any different from the original, and from what I can see, it’s the exact same formula.

“Butterbear’s generous helping of cocoa butter ensures skin stays soft and hydrated, regardless of how long you spend soaking. The comforting, blissful vanilla aroma lingers softly on the skin long after the bath.”

Just like Butterbomb, Butterbear makes my skin feel baby soft. When the fizzies subside and reveal the heart of cocoa butter, it melts in the water and sticks to the skin, sealing in moisture and providing deep nourishment. You know that the best way to apply body oil or butter is right after the shower when your skin is still wet? This bath bomb utilizes the same principle, and your skin won’t turn pruney even after an hour in the tub [*ahem* this may or may not come from personal experience].

The fragrance is a very light, barely noticeable vanilla, and it lingers on the skin until the next time you shower. The cleanup is fairly easy – Butterbear leaves a bit of oily residue, but it doesn’t stain the tub like Cinders.

Dashing Santa is a Limited Edition bath bomb [and a brand new never before released product] that is only available as part of Christmas collection. I was intrigued by the promise of fun citrusy sparkles and totally bought into all that glitter [pun totally intended]. This bath bomb is scented with bergamot, mandarin, and orange absolute, and I’ve always associated those notes with Winter Holidays.

“Just as jolly Old St. Nick races around delivering presents to good girls and boys on Christmas Eve, this Dashing Santa Bath Bomb will fly around the tub, dashing to and fro. His golden boots fizz away quickly, releasing an uplifting Satsuma-scented aroma made up of mandarin, bergamot and orange absolute. He also has a bit of a snowflake luster to give your water a beautiful sparkle, giving you a reason to sit back and revel in a long, lingering soak.”

Unlike Butterbear, Dashing Santa did not seem to moisturize my skin, but it sure made the bathtime fun and sparkly. When little shimmers dissolved in the water, it looked like I was swimming in liquid silk; and the bittersweet citrusy aroma was very uplifting. Unfortunately, that fragrance didn’t linger on the skin afterward, but I still enjoyed my bath time, and if there are any more of these left during LUSH’s annual sale, I will definitely pick up a few. The cleanup is surprisingly easy – those little shimmers are really tiny, they just go down the drain without clogging the pipes or sticking to the sides of the tub, so simple rinsing with water will suffice.

Do you need this? Both of these are unnecessary indulgences, but if you take baths a few times a month to relax and unwind, these bath bombs might be worth your money. Butterbear is a good choice if you want to kill two birds with one stone – it’s like you are swimming in body lotion, all you need to do is get out of the tub, wipe yourself clean, and your skin will be soft like baby’s bottom. Now, if you love citrusy scents, and just want to enjoy a little pick-me-up without worrying too much about the cleanup, Dashing Santa is a really great choice.
