Umm… hello, October? I honestly forgot I even received this box last month, and just remembered it after sorting through a huge pile of unedited pictures on my computer. After looking at these images I think I know why I didn’t review September Love With Food box, but I’ll let you be the judge.

Before I begin, I want to emphasize that I actually bought this box myself, and it wasn’t sent to me for review purposes. However, I used a code for a free box, so technically I only paid $2 [same as the offer above]. I can only imagine what someone who paid full price thought of this box… Now’ let’s see what was inside!
Simply So Sweet Chili Tortilla Chips – These tasted just okay. I thought they’d be more flavorful, just by looking at the package, but the chips themselves were a bit stale, and there wasn’t enough seasoning to hide that old product aroma. I don’t know, maybe my bag was from a bad batch or something, but I didn’t like these at all. On a positive note, they are made with GMO-free corn, which is hard to come by these days.
Churro Kettle Corn by Love With Food – I don’t like popcorn, aside from two very specific flavors from a very specific brand, so my expectations were low, but this one wasn’t too bad. I wouldn’t say it’s amazing, but it was pleasant and very filling, because it’s generously coated with caramel and cinnamon. This was one of the best samples in the box.
Mandys Rich Chocolate Cookie Thins – As a girl who loves Oreos for their dark parts, and scrapes off the frosting inside, I was beyond thrilled to try these cookie thins! I wish Love With Food sent us more of these, because I am now officially obsessed. The portion is perfect for a quick snack on the go, so if I bought more, I’d try to find these little pouches, because I can just throw one in my purse without making a mess. This was my favorite sample in the box!
Shotwell Candy 5 Spice Caramels – These soft and chewy caramels are made with a mix of cacao powder, anise, cloves, cinnamon, and ginger, so that’s why they’re called “five spice”. The flavor reminds me of this coffee cake my great aunt used to make, and she also added raisins and walnuts in it. It made me miss her so much! She is still alive by the way, and already made plans to celebrate her 100th Birthday next June. I’m doing everything I can to make it there, even though she lives on another continent 🙂
Maruso Ghost Soy Sauce – Ghost peppers are considered to be some of the hottest on the planet, and if you search Youtube, there are a bunch of people taking the ghost pepper challenge. Ghost peppers are 405 times hotter than Tabasco sauce. While I can barely tolerate regular chilis, my husband loves spicy food, and even he was a bit scared to try this soy sauce. I will keep it in the fridge for now, but I doubt either one of us will be brave enough to try it.
Ziggy Marley Organics Hemp Rules Roasted Hemp Seeds – I was not a fan of these at all. I tried adding them to my salads, as well as eating them as they are, and they always seemed to get stuck in my teeth. I didn’t like that gritty feeling either, felt like I was chewing on some tiny seed shells. In the end I fed them to the birds on my porch.
Fogg City Spice Co. Seasoning Lemon Rosemary – Love spices! This one in particular would work well with fish and chicken, and I plan to use it this week. So far I’m just admiring the wonderful aroma of smokey salt, rosemary, and garlic.
Amazing Grass Green Superfood Chocolate Infusion – I normally don’t take random supplements, so I tossed this sample. It’s made with various powdered fruits and vegetables, and the best way to take it is mix it in your morning smoothie.
THE VERDICT
Honestly, I was not a fan of the September selection of samples, and even though I only paid $2 for this box, I feel like I paid too much for what I got. I know, individual food preferences always vary from person to person, so this could have been a dream box for someone, however, for me it was a flop.

If I would have paid full price, I would not have been happy either. It looks interesting, though.
Indeed, this actually looks like a great concept, and I certainly appreciate that they donate meals to food banks across America, but it’s hard to feel enthusiastic on those months when boxes look as lackluster as this one 🙁
