L'Oreal Infallible Brow Stylist Prep & Shape Pro-Kit Review, Swatches

No makeup look is complete without groomed brows [high fashion editorials are the exception, obviously]. Filled in eyebrows can really make all the difference in transforming my natural features and help me look put together even when I’m not wearing any other makeup. I haven’t really bothered with my brows until about 3 years ago. I thought occasionally shaping them and adding permanent color from time to time was enough. I was wrong! After all, with so many brow kits on the market, it was almost a crime not to try at least one. Nowadays I enjoy experimenting with different brow products, colors, and formulas.

ABOUT THE KITS:

L’Oreal Infallible Brow Stylist Prep & Shape Pro-Kit [$14.99 for 0.12 oz, available here] is a new product released for 2016 that will help you shape, define, and fill in your eyebrows like a pro. In theory, at least.

These kits are available in two shades:

  • Light to Medium
  • Medium to Dark

Each kit comes with mini tweezers, and a small brush with a tiny spoolie on one end and an angled brush on another. The compact includes a mirror and two product pans with complementary colors: a tinted wax to keep the brows in place, and a brow powder for a more natural look. This type of packaging and all the little tools included makes L’Oreal Infallible Brow Stylist Prep & Shape Pro-Kit incredibly travel-friendly and easy to carry in your bag [each kit is smaller than a credit card!].

I received both shades to try, and both seem to work well with my coloring, although lately I’ve been using dark gray eyeshadow from my Viseart Neutral Matte palette instead. Light to Medium looked too pale in the compact, but the final color after mixing them together turned out to be surprisingly flattering and not too light at all.

Medium to Dark duo featured a beautiful taupe shade that I couldn’t wait to try as it seemed like it would match me the best. However, on my skin the color turned out a tad warmer than I had hoped. Not my personal favorite, but seems like other people love it on me – I kept getting compliments on my brows the day I wore it.

MY THOUGHTS:

I think L’Oreal Infallible Brow Stylist Prep & Shape Pro-Kit was a smart product to release. The kit is perfect for beginners, because it contains everything you need to achieve those perfect arches: all the tools, the mirror, and two different product pans. The size makes it ideal for traveling, so you can fix your brows on the go.

I have two main critiques that might be a dealbreaker for some, and the first one is the lasting power. Maybe it’s due to my skin being on the oilier side, but the wax and powder combo started fading after 6 hours of wear. To be fair, I didn’t use the setting spray that day, but I can almost guarantee that most people who shop for drugstore cosmetics don’t use one either. My second critique is the size of the tools: they might prove to be way too small even for a child, making them hard to hold and to operate. I have tiny hands so it wasn’t an issue for me, but I doubt someone who has large hands can achieve perfect precision without a lot of practice. Other than that I thought L’Oreal did a great job bringing a decent brow product on the market, and I can see myself recommending this one for people who want to build their makeup kit from scratch on a budget.

Looks like a cute brow set. I have such a tough time finding the right shades to go with my now super-bright red hair

I know, it’s always a pain finding the right shade. Why can’t it be easier, haha? 🙂

I always do better with brow pencils or gels that have that tiny mascara-type wand. I’m also terrible at doing brows, lol!

I had to buy the spoolie separately because often my favorite brow products didn’t come with it. Best 12 bucks I ever spent, haha!

You have lovely arched brows! Wax-based brow products don’t stay too long on me either. Gels, pomades and pencils work better on my oily mug.

Thank you! And yes, those waxes always seem to just melt off. I like gel-powder hybrids, and traditional powders. Sometimes I use matte eyeshadows too.

Great product, I have better with pencils though–probably due to my bad skills

I found that with practice mastering any makeup technique is totally realistic. I used to be terrible at winged liner, and now I feel pretty confident in my skills 🙂

    Your brows look great!

Those look interesting though I don’t think the colors would work on me.

    • May 11, 2016 / 12:13 pm

Those are certainly not one color fits all duos, although wouldn’t that be nice? Hah, a girl can dream 🙂

The mini tweezer makes this a perfect kit for traveling.

    • May 11, 2016 / 12:12 pm

Right? It’s too tiny for normal daily use, but can come in handy when you try to pack light.

I have yet to try these. I use pencils for obvious reasons but these may be handy to set the pencil.

Your brows always look so nice, Erika!

I have been trying different brow products, too – and right now, I love pencils. I can see this set being popular with those who want a drugstore alternative to the UD Gwen Stefani brow kit.

    • May 11, 2016 / 12:11 pm

That’s a nice comparison! These do look quite similar.

I easily get distracted with un-groomed brows so yes, I’m with you on well defined defined brows

    • May 11, 2016 / 12:10 pm

They can ruin the whole makeup look, that’s for sure.

This looks nice on you! Too bad the wear time was only 6 hours.

    • May 11, 2016 / 12:09 pm

I was bummed, too, but to be fair I shoul’ve used a setting spray so it was partially my fault, too.

    • May 11, 2016 / 12:10 pm

Thank you! I think my brows look better when they aren’t so warm though.

It looks like a perfect match on you!

    • May 11, 2016 / 12:10 pm

Thanks Lisa! I like the color, but I think I prefer something a little ashier 🙂

I think you received these from PR, didn’t you? I look forward to reading your review!
