I was crossing fingers for an amazing May box, especially after feeling a little bleh about the previous two, and here it is! This month Vault VIP members received a hefty 18-pan Sexy Eye Palette, which I’m pretty sure is the same as this Galore palette, currently available as a GWP. After taking a closer look at the shades, I am certain that it’s the same palette, sold under a different name.
HOW IT WORKS: As a Vault VIP for $348/year you will receive a full-sized product or assortment of products every month, curated by our Beauté experts. Members of The Vault will also have the opportunity to try exclusive, limited-edition items and pre-releases of the brand’s latest and greatest before anyone else gets their hands on them. Click here to subscribe.
Here’s what Mikey Castillo, the Makeup Director at Le Métier de Beauté, has to say about our May offering:
“The Palette is an inspirational homage to my experience at Spring Fashion Week. I selected colors to impact the vision of the season, as well as working in some of mine (and your) favorite hues that I cannot endure without! Over the last several fashion seasons, there have been certain shades that have made indelible impressions during their limited edition introductions. In response, this year’s Spring Collection will briefly welcome back some of those beloved colors in a sleek, elongated compact where every single shade is beautiful and intoxicating. The pigments can be blended, smoked, and layered to breathtaking complexity, or worn simply to show off their flat-out good looks.”
The palette certainly features a wide range of colors and finishes: neutrals and brights, mattes and metallics. It’s a very versatile selection that will definitely help achieve a multitude of looks, which by the way I appreciate. As much as I like palettes that follow a certain theme [nude palette, bright palette, all shimmers etc], I think given the chance most of us would go for variety.
You already heard me sing praises about LMdB’s fantastic eye shadow formula, they are among very few luxury brands that I can trust with my eye makeup. However, some of the pans in the palette were a bit disappointing and not on par with my expectations, which were set pretty high, considering my previous experience. I could go on describing the poor chalky texture and uneven coverage, but I’ll let the swatches do the talking. I think the order is pretty straightforward – top to bottom in groups of three.
Swatch reference: My skin tone is between MAC NC15 and NW15 with neutral undertones. Sometimes I can wear NW20 in the Summer. I thought this would be useful to know, since all screens show colors differently, and I also don’t have a studio setup with consistent lighting. Hope that helps!
By the way, another thing I wasn’t crazy about is the sponge applicators included with the palette: they seemed cheap and not very useful. I don’t think anyone really uses these, but even Memebox includes better applicators in their budget makeup palettes.
THE VERDICT: Even though I enjoyed this month, I firmly decided to skip this next year of Vault VIP program. Unlike year one, I found myself not reaching for many of the products very often after the initial unboxing, so even though the value was definitely there, I still feel like I wasted my money on things I don’t use. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure there are plenty of people out there who absolutely loved everything LMdB sent us this year, so it’s just a matter of how much you’re willing to experiment with the products you get. Anyhow, I look forward to the remaining two months I have left, and hopefully we will get some skin care or beauty tools in one of those upcoming boxes 🙂 If you wish to subscribe for 2015-2016 program, I posted the link above.

I like the variety in the palette. I won’t be subscribing to this but it’s an interesting monthly sub for sure!
I decided not to renew for another year, as well. I have enough LMdB goodies for now, and a lot of this year’s offerings are just sitting there, unused. I liked year 1 a lot more.
How disappointing that they weren’t all winners.
Indeed, and I was really hoping that it’s not just the shimmers that are good.
I wouldn’t subscribe, but the colors in the palette look nice and varied!
I like the assortment of colors and finishes, too 🙂 Wish the pans were all equally good.
I would love that palette!!!! But I don’t see myself subscribing.
If you just want the palette, it’s available as a GWP at Neiman’s (it’s called Galore palette there).
That palette looks gorgeous, but some of them do swatch patchy!
They look better with primer, but everything does, so that’s not really a redeeming quality.
That’s totally gorgeous. Unfortunately I’ve spent an incredible amount of money on LMdB and now it just sits and gathers dust. I don’t know why I don’t reach for it especially after falling for the line.
See, that was my reasoning, too, Marcia, so that’s why I won’t be subscribing for another year. Even though $350 for a whole bunch of LmdB goodness is a steal, I just don’t reach for my products as much as I thought I would.
For that kind of money, there shouldn’t be a bust in the bunch. I would be a little disappointed in getting a GWP as a part of what I paid for, too. Bummer.
Well, to get that GWP I’d have to spend $350, so it’s not all bad. What I didn’t like was the poor quality of those applicators and the patchiness of some of the pans.
I get what you mean. Some swatched very powdery. It could be me but I find the palette’s packaging similar to d/s brand i.e Nyx, even BH
Right? LMdB is known for their great eye shadow formula, but some of these have no business in this palette; it’s like they’re from another brand entirely.
Bummer about the palette! I agree with the girls below – for that kind of money that palette should be on POINT
For sure! Luckily, I love their eyeshadow formula for the most part. All of the LMdB Kaleidoscopes I have get used a lot [I think I have 6 or 7].
Wow – the shades look so nice in the pot that it’s such a bummer that it is like that… especially for the price point. For that kind of money – I would expect it to be butter and fabulous. If I didn’t know better, at first glance it kind of reminds me of a palette I would find in a drugstore or even ebay… so I am definitely wondering what happened here.
Yep, the packaging looks pretty cheap, and so do the included applicators. Most of the pans are quite fabulous, but several are a disaster.
This looks like an incredible palette color wise, but how disappointing on formula! I’m so on the fence about whether I would sign up or not, overall it looks like a good box, but I don’t want to drop that kind of money and be disappointed.
You summed up my sentiments pretty much. I kind of like the idea of this sub and the value for the money is tremendous. On the other hand, who cares about the value if the products are sitting there collecting dust.
I love the colors but what a shame… They had one of these out previously… maybe years ago even… but I loved it. I feel like LMdB has really started to go downhill. I just ordered a new palette after seeing it on Beauty Professor and that’s been my first LMdB order in at least a year. Hopefully it’s a good one!
I know what you mean, girl, it doesn’t feel like the same LMdB anymore. I saw those two new Kaleidoscopes and felt tempted to order one, too, but decided to pass.
What an interesting beauty sub, I haven’t heard of this one! The colors in that palette are gorgeous, too bad they aren’t that great formula wise 🙁
Yep, it’s a shame that such a fancy brand could produce several eyeshadow duds.
