Ipsy Unboxing and Review: May 2013

Oh Ipsy, you just keep luring me in every time I get unhappy and unsubscribe! This month I got sucked back in after seeing Zoya spoilers, then after the rest of the possible items have been confirmed I opened a second subscription. There are enough variations so my chances of not getting duplicates are fairly high.

About Ipsy:
Each month subscribers will receive a new Glam Bag with deluxe samples and full-sized beauty products customized according to your beauty profile. Members can watch and play along with the stylists with the same products that they are using, all for only $10 a month.

Zoya Nail Polish in Piaf
Zoya nail polish is the reason I resubscribed to Ipsy, and part of the reason I bought a second bag. I know some people dreaded receiving a yellow nail polish, but I knew I would have been happy with any of them. This cute baby-chick shade Piaf belongs in the Lovely Spring-2013 collection and is best described as a beautiful opaque yellow metallic with cool undertones.

Yaby Concealer Refill in Pecan
Pecan is so not the color I would have picked for myself, but it can be repurposed for face contouring, used as an eye shadow or an eye shadow base, and even as a natural-looking blush. I don’t plan on doing any of that, I’ll just give it away 🙂

Pacifica Roll-on Perfume in Tahitian Gardenia
I liked this fragrance more than I thought I would. I do like gardenia as an element in my perfumes, but not when it’s the main note. When I first opened the rollerball I could very clearly smell the gardenia, and it was almost overpowering. But when I actually applied it to my wrist I instantly smelled a strong citrusy “breeze”, and suddenly this fragrance went from mature to cute, flirty and very summery! The staying power is very nice, too, but that part is always individual and is mostly based your body chemistry. This particular scent lingered on my skin for nearly 6 hours!

Juice Beauty Reflecting Gloss in Pink
This lip gloss is very lightweight and feels very comfortable on the lips. Despite being packed with shimmery particles, it’s surprisingly non-gritty. I primed my lips with a concealer for this swatch, so you can clearly see the actual color of the gloss. On top of it all it smells nice and almost “edibly” fruity.

Pacifica Luminizing Body Butter
Thank you Ipsy fairies for not sending me the body bronzer! This gorgeous shimmer looks fantastic on my fair skin, and beautifully glimmers in the sun. The buttery texture smells like a coconut cake frosting, and now I’m hungry for one.

  • The best: Pacifica roll-on for its fantastic floral fragrance.
  • The worst: Yaby concealer, simply because the color is too dark for me.

The verdict: I’m more than pleased with this month’s Glam Bag, and I never would have thought that a day would come when I decide to subscribe to a second Ipsy bag. I hope it’s not just a one-time occurrence, and this is what our future Glam Bags will look like every month!
