Ipsy GlamBag May 2014 Review, Pictures: Fresh Picks

purchased affiliate links Referral Bonus

Can’t believe May is almost over! Maybe because we had very late Spring here in Michigan, it’s so hard to believe that Summer is just a few weeks away. This month Ipsy theme is Fresh Picks, and our bags came stuffed with samples and full-sized products to get our beauty to bloom all month long.

Pacifica Mineral Eyeshadow Duo

Pacifica Mineral Eyeshadow Duo – There were two duo variations sent out: cool and warm, and I got the cool one, which is perfect for my skin. My undertones seem to change all the time, but cool-toned makeup always seems to fit me best. Both shades had good pigmentation and staying power, but I found them hard to blend. The purple-greige shade shows up true to color, while the ivory shade has a lot of yellow shimmer that you can’t see in the pan, however, once it’s on the skin it turns almost glittery, which is something to consider if any of you plan to trade for it.

Olive Natural Beauty The Olive Lip Balm in “Refreshing Rosemary”

Olive Natural Beauty The Olive Lip Balm – All Ipsy subscribers received this lip balm in Refreshing Rosemary, but there are four other kinds available on the website, and they are currently on sale. I’m not a huge fan of chemicals in my lip balms, which is why I was thrilled to see that this one contains only all-natural ingredients, like organic olive oil and beeswax. The formula feels great on the lips, and the moisture is long-lasting; it’s no wonder that now I reach for this lip balm more often than any others I have on my desk. [yes, I have like 10 of them just sitting here, haha]

Eva NYC Therapy Session Hair Mask

Eva NYC Therapy Session Hair Mask – I used this mask once since I got it, and it worked pretty well. It’s nourishing and moisturizing, but it was worse at detangling than some other masks I used before. Despite that, I still really liked it, and will definitely fully use up the sample. The fragrance reminds me of a toy I used to have as a kid, it was a plastic baby that was made with some sort of “scented” material. Kind of a weird memory, and I would have never remembered about that toy if not for this mask.

derma e Microdermabrasion Scrub

derma e Microdermabrasion Scrub – Looking for a nice exfoliant to replace a product with plastic microbeads? Ingredients like finely ground pumice just might be the solution to our problem. This microdermabrasion scrub contains Dead Sea salt and volcanic sand [pumice] as exfoliating particles instead of plastic microbeads, that are slowly being banned in cosmetics. This scrub did a great job sloughing away dead skin cells, and I plan to incorporate it in my routine and use it once a week. Almost forgot to mention, it also smells heavenly!

Hang Ten Classic Sport SPF50

Hang Ten Classic Sport SPF50 – This brand is powered by COOLA, which is one of my all-time favorite sunscreen brands, so my expectations are set pretty high. I haven’t actually used it yet, because I have some other open samples to finish, but I really look forward to it!

[Bonus] bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in “Light It Up”

[Bonus] bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick – The shade I got – Light It Up – is absolutely gorgeous in person, but it’s nothing like the picture shown on ipsy.com; in real life it’s more fiery coral than brick. Am I disappointed? Not at all, and I think the actual color is a lot prettier!

THE VERDICT
Fabulous month! I really liked the bag itself, it’s made with nice soft canvas and has an Ecotools/Physicians Formula Organic Mascara vibe to it. The products were also fantastic, and I was really happy with everything I got, especially the lip balm, the sunscreen and my bonus lipstick. This bag will be hard to beat!

Great bag! I ended my subscription in January to save money. I’m glad to see the quality has been just as good if not better than last year!

I was thinking about canceling mine, too, because they kept sending out the same PLM brands, but I really like that now they include higher end and better-known companies.

Thanks Leticia, I thought so, too. These bags can be a hit or a miss, and this one was definitely a hit.

Bummer that you didn’t like your bag that much, but I hope that lipstick made up for it. It’s such a great color for Summer!

  11. May 22, 2014 / 4:51 pm

I didn’t get the lip balm, so not *all* Ipsy bags came with it.. what if I was the only one? Why am I being singled out? Why is Ipsy making me paranoid?? eeeee.. everything else looks great!

    • May 22, 2014 / 8:12 pm

Ahh sorry for the confusion, Nidia, I meant that all ipsy subscribers who received this lip balm, got the Rosemary variety 🙂 That’s what I get for trying to type fast.

  12. May 22, 2014 / 6:24 pm

I traded my points for the bare minerals lipstick too and then was bummed because I seen they have Jouer this month – oi. lol

    • May 25, 2014 / 7:41 pm

Aw bummer! Looks like the mauve Jouer gloss was sold out within a couple hours, but the pink was available for a while.

    • May 25, 2014 / 8:14 pm

That lippie was totally worth spending points on.

Glad you like this Ipsy bag, Norah, It was one of their best.

    • May 25, 2014 / 8:25 pm

It’s really gorgeous, the picture doesn’t do it justice.

    • May 25, 2014 / 8:26 pm

True, I think I got almost all of the samples that I hoped for this month. Usually I get 2-3 duds, so I got really lucky.

  16. May 25, 2014 / 12:30 pm

We had similar bags but I wasn’t super crazy about mine sadly.

    • May 25, 2014 / 7:46 pm
