Ipsy Glam Bag Unboxing and Review: October 2013

Three months in a row my bags have been arriving late, so I guess I have to expect this to be my regular Ipsy bag delivery schedule for the time being. The October theme is “Art of Beauty”, and the products are all about creating beauty masterpieces using out own body as a canvas.

“Get ready for a month of masterful makeup tricks and delightful beauty treats. Whether you’re headed to a fancy Fall ball or impressing the crowd with a jaw-dropping avant-garde costume, this month’s brand partners have something to help perfect your Look!”

Zoya Nail Polish in Giovanna
This month all subscribers received a full-sized Zoya nail polish from the Fall 2013 Cashmeres & Satins Collection. I got this lovely emerald shade called Giovanna, and even though I personally don’t care for green polishes (unless it’s mint green), I think they make a nice base color for nail art. Swatches in a separate post later today.

Buxom Full-On Lip Polish in Dolly
Dolly is described as a shimmery mauve, but since I already own this shade, I’m going to re-gift this sample to my cousin.  Despite their very nice formula, all Buxom lip glosses have a funky smell, which is the main reason I don’t use mine as often as I would like.

Sexy Hair Blow Dry Gel
I have fine hair and I sometimes use styling products that add some volume to it, however with this styling gel I didn’t notice any difference – positive or negative. It’s like I didn’t put anything in my hair at all, so based on my first impression, I don’t think I would purchase this product.

La Fresh Eco-Beauty Oil-Free Face Cleanser Wipes
I loved La Fresh wipes ever since I was introduced to the brand in my first ever Birchbox last June. Out of all the varieties, I think the purple ones with lavender work the best for removing makeup quickly and effectively, but having these as extras is pretty convenient too. I can definitely see some ladies being disappointed, because these are just face wipes, however I’m really glad I got this sample. My face gets irritated easily and reacts well only to certain brands, La Fresh being one of those select few.

be Delectable Hand Cream in Lemon & Cream
This hand cream smells so delicious, just like a lemon meringue cake I love so much! When I have it on, I can’t stop smelling my hands, it’s that good 🙂 It’s pretty moisturizing, and spreads well, thanks to dimethicone in the formula. I normally try not to use too many silicones, but I’m going to make an exception for this cream, because I have a weak spot for lemons and cakes.

THE VERDICT
I think October was a good month for me, even though I probably received one of the lowest valued bags. I didn’t care for the hair product, but getting it was kind of unavoidable since everyone received one. I’m sure my cousin will enjoy Buxom lip gloss, and I will have fun playing with the rest.

I received nearly the same bag (I got Vanilla hand lotion as opposed to Lemon). I thought it was a really nice fall selection. I don’t usually wear dark polish, but I think the dark green will go great with my Halloween costume.

How’s the vanilla lotion? I’m trying to decide if I should buy a set of minis at Kohl’s or not 🙂

I like it a lot, but it is very very sweet smelling. Not everyone enjoys very sweet vanilla, but I like it a lot better than say, the vanilla sugar smell from Bath and Body Works which I find pretty cloying.

That actually sounds very good, is it kind of like vanilla cake frosting? The Body Shop used to carry this really nice sweet vanilla fragrance that I loved, and I haven’t been able to find anything similar after they discontinued it.

Yeah, cake frosting is pretty close. It smells the way good quality vanilla cake better tastes? (Just realizing how weird it is to try to describe smells (: )

I received the same products. I love the Buxom. The color is so pretty. I’ve been wearing it constantly since receiving it. The hair gel made my hair feel flat and lifeless but all gels seem to have that affect on my hair. I’m very happy with the nail polish (I only use color on my toes so really bright pretty colors are welcome) and I like face wipes. They are always useful. I don’t use eye shadow so the other alternatives would have been a sad choice for me. Last month was a total bust for me with Ipsy but this month really made up for it.

That just proves that lower value bags can be very fun, too! 🙂 I felt absolutely zero “bag envy” towards people who got $50 valued bags with bella terra eye shadows.

I LOVE, LOVE lemon so I’m drooling over your lotion product. I got the polish (in the deep blue–lovely), a make-up brush, the wipes (which I love–great scent and nice on my skin), the wet and Wild eye shadows (which work well with my skin tone), and the hair gel (which had no good or bad affect on my hair either. I really liked everything I got but found the bag itself too bland but nothing upsetting to me…just a comment.

A good selection of goodies for me!

Ahh, you’re so lucky to get that deep blue Zoya polish, it was on the top of my wishlist for this month 🙂 And I agree with you on the bag, it’s pretty boring and really blends in with the background – totally not something I’m going to use as my purse makeup bag.
