Ipsy Glam Bag Plus January 2021 Unboxing & Review

It took me a little longer to get to my January 2021 Ipsy Glam Bag Plus but I finally had the chance to try everything earlier this week and the verdict is in! In January, the theme was “Dream”, and Ipsy didn’t shy away from many interpretations of the word, from being inspired by the colorful dreams we see at night to our dreams and goals for the future. Whichever one resonates with you more, Ipsy has the 2021 “Dream Team” covered! – or do they? Let’s see!

HOW IT WORKS:

Each month you will receive a new drawstring pouch filled with a mix of 5 full-sized beauty products customized according to your beauty profile. Ipsy Glam Bag Plus members can watch videos and play along with the stylists, all for only $25/month ($120+ value). Click here to check it out.

IN THE BAG:

1 // Florence by Mills Mind Glowing Peel Off Mask ($22) – I tried this mask when it first landed at Ulta and it was one of my favorite products from Millie’s line. Her collection is mostly targeted for the Gen-Z demographic, but this mask and the eye cream can be used by someone with mature skin, too. This purple mask looks so aesthetic plus the purple color is so beautiful. It also has a pleasant lavender scent, which I definitely appreciate. My skin does feel smoother after using it and it’s just a very relaxing experience overall. 4/5

2 // IGK Mistress Hydrating Hair Balm ($29) – This leave-in conditioner is formulated to help reduce frizz and deeply moisturize dry and coarse hair. I have very fine and flat hair so it was a bit too rich for my hair type, but I did massage a small amount into my dry ends and they instantly felt softer and smoother. I bet it would also work well as an after-shower detangler! 5/5

3 // CoverFX Shimmer Veil in Celestial ($28) – I goofed and included a photo of this product in my regular Ipsy Glam Bag but it actually was part of the Plus bag. These Shimmer Veils are designed to be your shimmery multitaskers and can be worn on your cheeks, lids, and lips, and boy do they wear beautifully! This formula is bomb – long-lasting, pigmented, easily blendable – and I would be totally open to exploring other shades. 5/5

4 // Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Brag Volumizing Mascara ($25) – This mascara features my favorite hourglass-shaped wand which works miracles on my thin, straight lashes giving them both curl and volume. However, this mascara did none of it LOL! It might be the worst mascara I’ve ever used, and I can’t believe ABH let it go into production. Instead of volume, it gives me massive clumps between lashes that flake off during the day creating charcoal fallout. Instead of length, it somehow makes my lashes look shorter – like, how even?? Instead of cementing the curl, it un-curls the lashes, undermining the torturous process I just had to go through to get that perfect C shape. I’m kidding about the torture of course, but using a lash curler is anything but pleasant tbh. Sorry Ipsy, it’s a hard NO from me. 1/5

5 // Purlisse Blue Lotus Balancing Moisturizer ($45) – Purlisse is one of those subscription box brands that you always see in boxes but never see anyone really talk about their products outside of the box reviews. Not sure why that is because their skincare is actually pretty good and the gentle, soothing formulas are perfect for people with sensitive skin. This lightweight lotion is no exception. It offers light hydration for those with normal, combination, and oily skin, and helps calm irritations. 5/5

THE VERDICT:

This wasn’t exactly my dream team of January beauty products although I did discover some new favorites. I enjoyed the CoverFX shimmer veil and the Purlisse moisturizer the most, and while the Florence peel-off mask was nice, it doesn’t stack up against other masks in my collection so I’m not sure it’ll get a lot of use. The biggest disappointment this month was the ABH mascara. I expected better quality from such a well-established brand, but it fell flat on its promises – as did my lashes, LOL!

The value of my Ipsy January 2021 Glam Bag Plus: $149
