Ipsy Glam Bag May 2024 Unboxing & Review
New month, new Ipsy Glam Bag! Our May theme is The Secret Garden, and Ipsy claims that this month’s products were curated with seasonal blooms in mind: from makeup palettes that give a nod to spring florals, to plant-powered skincare that showcases some of the best botanical ingredients, and everything in between. These monthly themes are usually a stretch, but I do see the floral inspiration in some of the featured samples, plus the opulent makeup bag itself looks like it came out of an antique oil painting.
HOW IT WORKS:
Each month as an Ipsy subscriber you will receive a new Glam Bag with a mix of 5 deluxe samples and full-sized beauty products customized according to your beauty profile. Members can watch videos and play along with the stylists, all for only $14/month (up to $70 value). Click here to check it out.
IN THE BAG:
1// Anastasia Beverly Hills Mini Clear Brow Gel ($13) – It’s a clear setting gel to keep unruly brows looking neat. I personally don’t think it has a strong enough hold for anyone with thicker brows, I was already struggling to use it on my medium-thick brows. At best, it will make them look brushed and groomed for a few hours, and eventually it starts coming off in flakes. If you need to alter the shape and actually cement it in place, I recommend checking out Patrick Ta version – it wears like iron. 3/5
2 // Dallas and James Watermelon Dream Cloud Cream ($48) – This moisturizer reminds me of Glow Recipe Pink Juice that comes in a tall clear pump. I find the texture to be very similar as well: slightly sticky so it stays on the skin during the day, but not oily or greasy, so it’s perfectly suitable for oily and combination skin. The cream has a sweet watermelon fragrance that instantly puts me in a good mood. I wouldn’t go out of my way to purchase the full size since the formula is pretty basic, but I’m definitely going to finish the sample. 4/5
3 // Dazzle Me SOS Hair Powder ($6) – Dry shampoo for girlies on the go! It’s a powder puff that you fun through the oily parts of your hair to help absorb excess oil and give the roots a little bit of lift. Not a product for me, unfortunately, because I’m “blessed” with fine hair and oily roots so I’ve got to wash it every day anyway, but if you are someone who uses dry shampoo, this is a handy little sample that will be right at home in your purse. It did get kinda dusty while I was testing it though, so that’s something to keep in mind. 3.5/5
4 // What’s Up Beauty Egyptian Queen Lipstick in Seba (?) – Not sure the value of this lipstick, it wasn’t available on the brand’s website when I wrote this review. It would look pretty average if not for the beautiful etching on the tip, it’s a bummer that part will wear off. The formula isn’t groundbreaking, but nice enough: the lipstick wears for 4+ hours and feels nourishing, leaving the skin slightly moisturized throughout the day. 4/5
5 // Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer ($20) – Cult primer with polarizing reviews, I swear people either love it or hate it. I’m in the “love it” camp because this sticky formula works really well on skin that has dry flakes. This grippy primer binds them back to the surface of the skin so when you apply complexion products they don’t have any dry spots to stick to. It does feel like glue on your face though. 4/5
BOTTOM LINE:
Even though I didn’t rate any of the products 5/5 this month, I still think it was a great bag. The lipstick is beautiful and just the kind of YLBB shade I wear all the time, so of course I would have a bunch of similar colors in my collection already. I’m excited to add it to my spring rotation! I’m also always thrilled to get more samples of the Milk primer: it’s expensive at Sephora and I go through it fast. Having these travel-sized samples can help me delay purchasing another bottle and that makes my wallet very happy. And of course the makeup bag itself! I just love the design this month and looking at this pouch will make me smile every time I pull it out of my purse.
