Holy smokes, it’s already the end of August! I know they say time flies when you’re having fun, but it sure feels like my fun is never-ending. This month Ipsy is sending us to beauty “prep school” with some makeup basics and new must-haves. Except in my case, the bag was full of fail. Read on to find out why!
HOW IT WORKS: Each month subscribers will receive a new Glam Bag with deluxe samples and full-sized beauty products customized according to your beauty profile. Members can watch videos and play along with the stylists with the same products that they are using, all for only $10/month. If you would like to use my referral link click here to join Ipsy. Thank you!
Marc Anthony Nourishing Argan Oil of Morocco Oil Treatment was the largest sample in my bag this month, and came in a nice tall bottle. Considering how little oil you need to nourish hair and add shine, this should last me several months. Keep in mind that this is not a 100% argan oil; other ingredients include silicones, keratin, lindseed, carrot, and olive oils. Overall, after using it 3 or 4 times, I can’t say I loved it, there are better hair oils and serums out there, but it wasn’t too bad.
Marsk Pro Line Eye Shadow Brush is your typical synthetic brush with pokey bouncy bristles. It performed poorly with all kinds of eye shadows and concealers, and the coverage was too streaky. It’s probably one of the few brushes Ipsy sent out that I totally hated.
Another fail in my bag was Hikari Cosmetics Lip Gloss in Salsa. The color is beautiful, but based on my previous experience with this brand, all of their products give me a reaction. Also, in case you didn’t know, Hikari Cosmetics and Be a Bombshell are practically the same company. Need I say more?
Another provate label product in my bag – Skone Cosmetics Luxe Doubler Eye/Lip Pencil in Wine. Alright, I admit that the formula actually wasn’t too bad, but the color is very unflattering on me and I just couldn’t make it work.
Surprise! Another eye pencil! From another private label brand! *throws confetti in the air* Alright now, this is just ridiculous. Yes, it’s a full-sized eyeliner, and the color is actually very nice, but the formula is absolutely awful. It’s dry, chalky, drags on the skin like there’s no tomorrow, and the pigmentation is terrible. I don’t even care that Pencil Me In Cosmetics Natural Eyeliner Pencil in Boysenberry is infused with vitamins, it just doesn’t work.
Swatch reference: My skin tone is between MAC NC15 and NW15 with yellowish hue and neutral undertones. Sometimes I can wear NW20 in the Summer. I thought this would be useful to know, since all screens show colors differently, and I also don’t have a studio setup with consistent lighting. Hope that helps!
THE VERDICT: I. Hated. This. Bag.
P.S.: Can you tell I took these pictures half-heartedly? That about sums up my “excitement” for this bag.

I received the same lip/eye liner &, no, the color is for sure not for me. My favorite item was a light lavender nail polish. I’m sorry your bag was so bad. 🙁
I saw that lavender polish in the sneak peeks, it’s so beautiful! At least someone’s bag was good 🙂
That’s it, Anastasia! Let it all out! I wasn’t excited for this bag, either. I got a few different items than you, but mine still wasn’t nearly as good as last month’s.
Haha, yeah, this was probably one of my worst bags ever, if not the worst. Even the best product in the bag – the hair oil – is still just “okay”. Fingers crossed for a good September bag, so far the spoilers look promising.
