TULA Skincare Purifying Face Cleanser, Exfoliating Treatment Mask

I’ve been on a skincare testing kick lately, and today we’re going to talk probiotics. A couple months ago I was approached by TULA Skincare, a company that harvests the power of probiotics and combines their scientifically-proven benefits with the latest beauty innovations and traditional ingredients. I received two products to try: Purifying Face Cleanser [$28 for 6.7 oz, available here] and Exfoliating Treatment Mask [$54 for 1,7 oz, available here].

TULA Skincare Purifying Face Cleanser

PURIFYING FACE CLEANSER:

As you all know, I have it out with harsh cleansers. Seriously, though, I really do. I know I change my skincare preferences frequently because I keep getting more educated about the science behind the ingredients, but at this time I’m convinced that a good cleanser must be strictly within pH5.0 and 5.5 to be safe and effective without compromising the skin’s protective acid mantle. This logic applies to products formulated for all skin types, whether it’s dry or oily.

TULA Skincare Purifying Face Cleanser

I hate giving negative reviews, and luckily with TULA Purifying Face Cleanser I didn’t have to. This clear foaming cleanser has the perfect pH5.0 when mixed with water, so I had no worries whatsoever about the state of my acid mantle. Even though the formula is technically fragrance-free, straight from the tube the gel had a fairly strong bitter-herbal scent to it, which I found a tad unpleasant. I have a finicky nose, what can I say! However, once I foamed it up between my palms it lost most of its olfactory potency.

I loved using this cleanser in conjunction with my pre-cleanse oil. It worked very well to clean up any greasy residue and leftover makeup, making my face feeling smooth, soft and petal fresh.

TULA Skincare Exfoliating Treatment Mask

EXFOLIATING TREATMENT MASK:

I have combination skin, so purifying clay-based masks are a must in my beauty arsenal. Depending on the condition of my skin I use them once or twice a week. Now that winter is finally over my face is getting oilier, so I will definitely use them more frequently, because my pores tend to get clogged easily.

TULA Skincare Exfoliating Treatment Mask

TULA Exfoliating Treatment Mask combines the power of both physical and chemical exfoliation to really address those oily patches and uneven skin texture. Little exfoliating beads contain Jojoba Oil and Vitamin E, so this mask will even work for someone with dry skin. Beauty experts recommend bentonite clay for people with oily and combination skin, and kaolin for everybody else. This mask contains both, making it a universal purifying treatment for all skin types.

TULA Skincare Exfoliating Treatment Mask

All TULA products are formulated without parabens, mineral oil, petrolatum, phthalates, and propylene glycol. Fans of cruelty-free skincare will be happy to know that TULA never tests their products on animals.

I love the blue mask! So pretty. What I’m curious about is how probiotics can work topically?

    • March 30, 2016 / 2:06 pm

I linked to the page with studies 🙂 There is a lot of research that connects using topical probiotics with reduced inflammation, redness, more even skin texture, and healthy microbiota of the skin among other things.

Sorry, I didn’t realize the “scientifically proven benefits” was a link to their research though I should have. Because I have diverticulitis and I took a lot of antibiotics to get rid of the infection, I depleted my gut bacteria and it will take about a year for it to come back. I take two different types of probiotics and eat a ton of yogurt to help things along. So I’m incredibly interested in what probiotics can do for me besides replenish my gut bacteria! I’ll read it!

Sorry to hear about your health issues, hopefully everything gets back to normal soon. And yes, it’s true that probiotics can make your skin glowy and more even! I personally love using those products 🙂

Interesting to see probiotics in a mask!

Right? I’ve used them in moisturizers before, but never in a mask or a cleanser.

I don’t think that I can handle a cleanser that smells unpleasant but that mask sounds great.

I think it might be just me, and “unpleasant” is relative. I find the smell of peanut butter unpleasant 🙂

I don’t think these products are for my type of skin but I love learning about them. You know so much about this topic.

I love the look of that mask

    • May 10, 2016 / 9:07 pm

Clay masks are the best! I use them at least once or twice a week to unclog the pores on my combination skin. It gets congested easily.

The packaging is lovely and I’m intrigued about this line but I think that these specific products wouldn’t be appropriate for my skin type. 🙂

    • May 10, 2016 / 9:07 pm

I totally agree, the packaging is gorgeous 🙂 And they have a wide range of products to choose from, so I’m sure you could find something for your skin type!

I’ve never heard of probiotics in skin care, but I know it’s good stuff if it’s passes your pH test! I wish it smelled better, though. With my love of masks, you know that’s one I’m dying to try!

    • May 10, 2016 / 9:08 pm

Haha, yes girl, I know you love your clay masks as much as I do 🙂 I think you would really enjoy this one.
