I’m sharing Secret in my life as part of a sponsored series for Socialstars™.
The only bad part about summer is the heat. You would think that in Michigan our weather is milder, on the cooler side even, but nope, nature clearly has other plans. For the past couple of weeks we were experiencing some kind of an abnormal heat wave, and that spike in temperature did not go unnoticed by my skin. If you ever had to experience high heat and humidity, you know how difficult it is to wear any kind of makeup or skincare; everything seems to just melt off.
Instead of trying to figure out how to wear makeup in the summer, let’s talk about staying cool and fresh in general. Today I wanted to share three staples that really help me feel refreshed throughout the day.
1 // Thermal Spring Water Spray – I feel like thermal spring water sprays are so underrated! These single-ingredient natural skin treatments contain unique mineral composition which is often impossible to replicate in the lab. A quick midday spritz helps cool down the skin’s surface, and also acts as a setting powder after the water evaporates.
2 // Sugar-free Gum – I know some people love it, but for some reason, I just don’t enjoy chewing gum. However, I make sure to always bring a small pack of sugar-free gum when I’m out and about, especially during the summer months. Doesn’t minty breath feel refreshing? The brand I currently use replaced sugar with xylitol, which is apparently really good for your teeth. According to experts, it creates a thin screen-like film on the enamel, so plaque has a much harder time sticking to the teeth, and most of it just slides off. I recently got a big bag of xylitol that I am now using in my dishes and drinks instead of sugar – it’s good for you and tastes just like real sugar, with no bitter aftertaste.
3 // Natural Materials – Trust me, you do not want to wear anything polyester if you plan to stay cool and comfortable in the summer. Polyester tends to trap body heat and does not allow your skin to breathe, which leads to extra sweating. Natural materials, such as cotton, linen, and silk, are much better choices!
4 // Trusted Antiperspirant – Look, I know nobody really wants to talk about it, but some of us are sweatier than others. Sweating is absolutely natural, but that doesn’t stop many of us from being self-conscious about pit stains and odor. Since I stopped using deodorants, I had to go through a whole bunch of antiperspirants before I found the one I like. I currently alternate between Secret Clinical Strength Clear Gel and Secret Clinical Strength Invisible Solid, they both work really well to keep my underarms dry and odor-free even in hot and humid weather conditions. Did you know that Secret Clinical Strength antiperspirants provide 2x the sweat protection vs. an ordinary antiperspirant? Well, now you do!
How do you stay cool in the summer? Let me know in the comments below!
This is one of my favorites for year round even! At first I didn’t notice a major difference but with continued use it works CRAZY good!
It is sooo humid now that my LaVanila natural deo sometimes doesn’t do it. Secret Clinical Strength to the rescue
One of the reasons I hate summer for is the sweating. I just feel at times everyone can smell you! However, for the days I know are going to be long I stick with Secret.
The heat is on, here. I’ve got keeping cool down to a science. 😀
I love Secret! Anti-perspirants are the way to go!
I dread summer! I seriously can’t wait for fall because this humidity is too much
I use the solid one and I love it!
Cotton is my go-to material around the year, even for layering! Synthetics make my skin break out.
I always switch to Secret Clinical Strength when summer comes around.
Definitely prefer lighter fabrics and cotton during the summer, otherwise I just get so overheated!
Cotton shirts are definitely my heat repellant.
I try to stay out of the heat as much as possible but if that can’t be prevented I try to wear light fabrics and always a hat!!
I can’t leave the house without my Secret Clinical Strength!
