The older I get, the more I appreciate the concept of everyday luxury. A beautiful wallet that is equal parts practical and precious, a cashmere scarf that keeps me warm and feels like the softest cloud, a luxurious lipstick that makes me smile every time I use it. I’m sure I can think of a dozen more things, but today we’re focusing on beauty products. Holiday season is in full swing and many of us plan to give gifts to our friends and loved ones. This year I will be giving something classic and timeless to each of my giftees, and in my opinion CHANEL embodies both.
There are two people in particular that I want to spoil this year: my mom and my younger sister. I know that both of them are big fans of CHANEL, so they will each be getting something very special in their stockings.
Limited Edition CHANEL N°5 L’Eau ($160) – Some people call it a summer version of the classic No.5, because it’s lighter and easier to wear. In its core L’Eau has the same notes that make up the original No.5, but the citrusy top notes are enhanced to give it an airy, effortless feel. It’s flirty and fun, but also very elegant. I think that version transitions very well from day to night, especially if you spritz the clothes so the fragrance lasts longer. Also, how pretty is this limited edition packaging? This holiday season CHANEL N°5 Eau de Parfum, Parfum and L’Eau are all available in red, and the 900ml Parfum edition comes in exclusive red Baccarat crystal bottle [only 55 are made]. What a treat for collectors!
Perfect red lipsticks do exist, and I believe one of them to be Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour in La Fascinante ($37). Classic color paired with on-trend matte finish and aesthetically pleasing packaging make this a fool-proof pick for my mom. She has a very charming style, and wears a red lip quite often. Last time she complained to me how quickly she tends to go through her lipsticks because she likes to re-apply a lot. I have Rouge Allure Velvet in other colors in my personal collection, and I find them to be long-lasting, so hopefully this one will last her a while.
Another thing worth buying as a gift is one of CHANEL’s fantastic nail polishes. I’ve been lusting over them for years after reading so many rave reviews from fellow bloggers. Now that I have a few of my own, I can add my name to an already large fan base. CHANEL Le Vernis in Rouge Puissant ($28) makes a great pair with La Fascinante lipstick, they complement each other so well you’d think they came in a set. The glossy finish of the nail polish makes a nice contrast to the matte finish of the lipstick, and they create a monochromatic look that doesn’t scream ‘tone on tone’.
Here’s a random thought: what exactly defines art? According to the internet, art is a process or product of deliberately arranging elements in a way that appeals to the senses or emotions. I believe that if a lipstick makes you feel things when you look at it, it’s no longer just a lipstick – it’s art, even if it’s only meaningful to you and no one else. I use this approach with my own splurge purchases as well as gift giving. I know my Mom will adore her new lipstick and nail polish, because red is her signature color. And my sister always loved the idea of No. 5, but wished it was a little lighter, so L’Eau will be perfect for her! Even though I won’t get to see their faces when they open their presents [I won’t be able to visit them until spring], I’m just happy knowing that these precious gifts from CHANEL will make their holidays a little brighter this year.
If you plan on shopping at chanel.com for gifts, keep in mind that all orders placed in December will receive complimentary shipping in time for Christmas.
