Hard Candy Walk The Line Liquid Eyeliner Review, Pictures, Swatches

purchased

Hard Candy is quickly becoming one of my favorite drugstore brands, and this time I’m going to share my thoughts on their Walk The Line Liquid Eyeliner. The only shade that wasn’t sold out at the time was Dazzle, so I just grabbed it in hopes that it’s good.

The company describes their liquid eye liners as “quick drying”, with a “precise brush for application”. Walmart adds to it that “Walk the Line eyeliner’s superior formula won’t budge, even under the most strenuous conditions”. We’ll see about that.

Hard Candy Walk The Line Liquid Eyeliner in “Dazzle” – look at that glitter!

Available in 14 bold shades, Walk The Line eye liners feature a wide variety of finishes, from matte, to glitter. Dazzle is best described as light purple metallic with iridescent medium glitter, suspended in clear base.

The first thing I check is of course the scent, which this eye liner doesn’t have. I’m guilty of liking scented products sometimes, if the fragrance is pleasant, but whenever I have the option between scented and unscented, I very often choose the latter. The packaging is quite simple, but I simply must mention the value – for the same price as most other drugstore liquid eye liners, Walk The Line products contain almost twice as much product! How cool is that?

The application was smooth and easy, thanks to the thin brush. We’re talking about an actual brush here, with bristles and everything, and not a felt tip liner or one of those stick things [hate those!]. At first the color goes on a bit sheer, but the coverage is buildable without looking cakey. It took me about 2 coats to get a fully-opaque line, but I had to add a little bit here and a little bit there, because the distribution of pigment is random – after all, it’s glitter we’re talking about.

Hard Candy insisted that the drying time is fast, but personally I thought it was taking longer than it should. It was well worth the wait, though, because once it set, the line would not budge throughout the day, and my eyelids can get quite oily sometimes, so most eye liners just melt off eventually. In the end I got solid 10 hours of smudge-proof and flake-proof wear out of this one, and I’m sure it would last even longer if I let it alone. Speaking of flakes, considering that this is a glitter eye liner, I didn’t experience any fallout, and I thought that was pretty impressive as well.

The removal is easy when using the proper products designed for the eyes. Be extra careful though, and make sure the glitter doesn’t get in your eyes. My uncle is an eye doctor and he always tells me horror stories about scratched cornea. Ouch!

THE VERDICT
Walk The Line liquid eye liner in Dazzle has an impressive staying power and buildable coverage. Despite the company’s claims, the formula is not fast drying, but the result is well worth the wait. The tube is very generously-sized – you get twice the volume for the same price as most other drugstore liquid eye liners.

This is such a pretty color! I’m curious about the liquid glitter liners. I’ve never used one, and wonder if it would irritate my eyes. I do love the look of it though!

It really depends, since the formula varies from brand to brand. Hopefully you can find one that works for you 🙂

Love the color! I’ve never used one that’s quote so overt in its glitteriness!

Haha, I’m usually not rocking this king of glitter during the daytime either, but it’s nice to have in my stash for those days when I need a little extra glam on my eyes 😉

I haven’t tried that many glitter liners, but I must agree, that I didn’t expect the coverage to be as great as it is. A pleasant surprise!

Very pretty. As I wear contacts, I think I’ll err on the side of safety and pass on glitter liners, tho. 🙂

    • February 11, 2014 / 11:12 pm

Mm yes, I wouldn’t recommend these to someone who wears contacts, because this glitter could potentially get in your eye quite easily.

So pretty! I can never wear glitter since I wear contacts. It’s depressing lol

Agreed, it’s a lovely shade and not too tacky, like some glitters tend to be.

I love that look – the few times I’ve worn glitter eyeliner, I get lots of compliments. It’s definitely an attention-getter, especially when you wear glasses like I do.

Oh yes, i can definitely see it looking amazing with glasses!

that looks amazing on you but i dont know if i like how the glitter gets in your lashes

    • February 13, 2014 / 11:10 am

Thank you Kristyn! I messed up the application and the glitter kind of pooled over my lashes, but I still think it’s very pretty 🙂
