Goodies Co. Taster’s Box Unboxing and Review: June 2013

It’s time to review my monthly parcel of yummy Goodies. I stopped hoping for indie and hard-to-find gourmet brands that we used to get in our first few boxes, and accepted the fact that this is, after all, a Walmart box of snacks. Once I came to peace with myself, suddenly I wasn’t upset about the products anymore and actually quite enjoyed the contents.

This month Goodies is following the “international” theme and our boxes included a variety of flavors from across the globe. Sounds promising, doesn’t it?

Lays Stax Que Rico Adobadas Chips
So these are Lays’ take on Pringles with added spices commonly found in Mexican cuisine. This tube was instantly confiscated by my husband, because he adores spicy foods and snacks. I don’t think he got a chance to try them yet, though, because last time I opened the pantry, they were still standing on his snack shelf, and he only keeps unopened ones there. I decided to try one just to see if it’s any good, and I definitely liked it a lot. The taste is flavorful and not spicy at all, but I think I prefer the traditional shape of Pringles more. I had a hard time finding the retail value on these because technically they’re not in stores yet, so I had to estimate the price based on Amazon resellers’ rates.

Pringles Cheese Stix
I’m sure I’m not a unique snowflake in my love for cheese, so I’ll just say that these are totally cheese-lover’s snacks. These long, crunchy, very cheesy thin sticks just kind of disappear in the depths of my mouth making me want more. Actually, they’re on my shopping list right now 🙂

Smooch Snacks Lip Smackingly Good Apple, Raspberry & Peach Fruit Snack
I have a special place in my heart for pureed fruit snacks, so of course I loved this one! It tasted really good and not too sweet, just the way I like it! Currently you can buy them only on Amazon or from Goodies directly, so you could say we actually got something exclusive in our boxes.

GimMe All-Natural Cheddar Cheese Roasted Seaweed Snacks
I grew up eating seaweed on a regular basis, because it was a huge “health thing” in Russia back in the 90s, so I actually really enjoyed this snack. I crumbled it on top of my salads, rice, and added some to my egg drop soup for some extra flavor burst.

Duchy Originals Highland All Butter Shortbread Cookies
I adore good shortbread, so I munched these downs first thing after opening my box. They were nice and thin, yet crispy and a little soft in the center. The texture was perfect as well, no grittiness or weird chunks like it sometimes happens with bad shortbread cookies.

Purchase: Yes

Dream Water NighTea Night
I actually use Dream Water fairly often when I need to just relax and fall asleep. The taste is really bad and reminds me of yucky sore throat syrups or children’s mouthwash, but it really works thanks to included melatonin. I think I’ll be better off just taking melatonin supplements, but there’s something cute about drinking out of that little bottle 🙂
Overall: 4/5
Purchase: Yes

The verdict: Food experiences are always individual, but I actually liked this box a lot. This subscription is perfect for me, since I don’t snack often and usually don’t even go into snack isles while shopping for groceries, so this way I get to discover new foods while avoiding the temptations to buy more in-store 🙂

Did everyone get six items? I got everything you did except the Smooch Snacks Fruit Snack. I liked everything in the box except the Dream Water (which I would never use since I don’t need it) and the Seaweed Snacks.

My favorites are the Pringles Stix and Shortbread too!

This was a pretty good box, wasn’t it? Totally worth the $7 spent!

    Hi,

I was surprised that you ordered from Goodies again. Okay, so I’m not going to be negative. I will state that with the plethora of Walmarts in my city (Hell, just within a couple of miles of where I live!), I’ve seen these products on the shelf. Therefore, there’s no need for me to subscribe again.

I will place those Pringles sticks on my list. I was just at Wally World today and I purchased a box of Poxy Sticks, you know, the ones they sell in the foreign foods section and they are covered with strawberry creme or chocolate and they’re baked sticks?

Well, pringles makes the baked honey butter sticks. I can easily use those to dip in Nutella, instead of buying those little Nutella and sticks for a whopping $1.50. For $1.50 more I can buy a nice sized jar of Nutella and have plenty of it, you know?

And what do you know? I have to go back to Wally World tomorrow and finish shopping for food. So, no prob adding those to my list. Maybe I’ll try another brand of pureed fruit, cause I’ve seen those in the store as well.

BTW, how are your nails holding up from all of those ‘marathon’ manicures, lol?

      Hey 🙂

Actually, I was going to cancel, but my husband asked me to keep it. He said $7 is not a huge deal, and he likes most of the snacks anyway. In the end I’m glad I kept it, because I enjoyed almost all of the products from this month’s box.

My nails have been in pretty good shape recently, so I decided to paint them more often. In fact, I painted them TWICE today for blog pictures that you’ll see later this week 😉 I’ve been taking Biotin supplements, and my nails and hair really improved over the past 3 weeks.
