Goodies Co. Taster’s Box Unboxing and Review: August 2013

I didn’t bother writing a review last month because technically this is not my subscription anymore. I was going to cancel, but my husband said we might as well keep it, because he liked some of the snacks and because he wants to get “fun boxes in the mail”, too. Here’s what was in his August Goodies box.

Ojo Nectar Mango Blackcurrant
My husband gave it to me because he knows how much I love mango, and surely enough I actually really liked this drink. It tasted like a normal fruit juice you would buy at a grocery store, but apparently this one comes with benefits to promote eye health. On the side of the bottle it’s clearly listed as a dietary supplement and not as a regular juice. OJO drink was developed to be a healthier alternative to the difficult-to-ingest AREDS vitamins currently taken by millions of Americans. IMO this drink was probably the highlight of this box.

Snyder’s Naturals Veggie Chips
Meh, these were okay at best, and I actually quite like veggie chips in general. I took the bag from hubby to try one of each color and thought that the spinach one tasted the best, while the other two were a bit bland. Hubby appeared to like them but he isn’t very picky with his snacks, and after I asked him if he would like me to order more on Amazon, he said “don’t bother”. That’s as good of a product review as I can squeeze out of him, so I assume he didn’t think they were that amazing after all.

Pronto Cafe Blues by Barnie’s Coffee
This sample is still sitting in the pantry, and will probably eventually reach the expiration date there because we don’t drink instant coffee. I’m thinking about maybe adding it to a milkshake or something so it’s not wasted, but so far neither one of us seemed interested in one.

Bigs Hidden Valley Ranch Sunflower Seeds
I personally don’t like ranch dressing or sunflower seeds, so this sample-sized pouch is wasted on me. It’s apparently also wasted on my husband who outright hated it. He said it tastes very sour, like a superconcentrated ranch dressing powder. He also mentioned that they were very hard to chew.

Tangy Zangy Twisties
These sour twirlies tasted so incredibly artificial, my husband and I both stopped eating them right away and decided to toss this sample. They’re apparently flavored with real fruit juices, but the concentration must be miniscule 🙁

Sea Salt & Butter Poplets
These were so hard I thought I was going to break my teeth trying to chew them. I like fully popped popcorn and always throw away those unpopped or half popped kernels, and I don’t know of anyone who eats these. However, as with any food, everyone is different and if the company decided to mass produce them then maybe they actually have a demand big enough for that.

The verdict: You know me, I hate picking apart products and subscriptions, because it’s really a waste of time, but I figured I should document this box anyway just so you all could see how the quality has gone downhill over the past few months. At this point I probably wouldn’t recommend subscribing to Goodies just because of my consistent disappointment with most of the products they sent out lately.
