Golden Tote Haul and Review: September 2013

September was my birthday month, so I decided to treat myself to things I’ve always wanted to try but was hesitant to buy. Golden Tote was one of such splurges. I decided to grab the $49 tote, because I still wasn’t ready to gamble on the big one.

HOW IT WORKS
Golden Tote is a fashion mystery grab bag service founded by the owners of Puella. There are two Golden Tote tiers – the $49 bag and the $149 bag, and each tier promises to deliver at least triple the value. Pick one or two products yourself from the available selection, fill out the style profile, and let the editors choose the rest! This is not a recurring subscription, so there is no monthly charge.
I have no idea how their referral program works, but if you want to sign up using my link, click here to start shopping. Thank you! 🙂

Since I got the cheaper bag, I only got to choose one item, and I chose this sweatshirt. That’s right, out all of the items, I really wanted this sweatshirt for some reason, and when I first saw it I felt like it was calling my name. Yup, my husband thinks I’m crazy, too! 🙂 The sweatshirt is everything I wanted it to be: big, comfy, pretty pattern. It’s a bit lower in the back and slightly shorter in the front, so it actually looks pretty nice if I wear it with a pair of skinny jeans or shorts. According to the label it’s made by Cotton Culture and I couldn’t find a retail value for it. I have seen it on Daily Look for $45, though, just a different color.

My second item was chosen by the editors based on my style profile, and they decided to send me this sweater. I’m very picky when it comes to sweaters, because it’s so easy to look bad in them, so at first I didn’t really “get” this one. But when I tried it on, it actually grew on me. It’s very light and delicately made, definitely not something you want to wear around jumpy pets or small children that like to tug on things. It stretches in all the right places, providing a lovely fit that isn’t too snug and not too wide. This sweater is made by the brand called PEACH and again I don’t know how I can find out the retail value, because when I search for peach sweaters, I get a million links, naturally 🙂

Last but not the least, I also got this aztec scarf, and it’s gorgeous! There are so many things I can wear it with, I eventually gave up trying to count them. I’ll definitely get a lot of use out of this one during Fall and Winter. The scarf doesn’t have a brand tag on it, but I saw it sold on Golden Tote website for $15.

THE VERDICT
While I definitely liked the summer selection more, I must admit that I had a lot of fun opening my tote and trying on the goodies. I think I’ll get one again when I fall in love with another item, like I did with this sweatshirt 🙂

Have you tried Golden Tote? What do you think about my picks?
