Glossybox Review: February 2013

Here’s my belated February Glossybox review. The International Style theme left myself and many others very disappointed because honestly they could have done so much more with it. The selection of products was mostly from already known brands and if I didn’t get this box for free with my Glossydots I would be writing them a dissatisfied letter right about now.

About Glossybox:
Glossybox is one of the most popular international beauty subscription boxes, and now it finally came to the US. Each month Glossybox subscribers receive up to six deluxe-size to full size products from crème de la crème of international brands. At $21/month this is one of the most expensive monthly boxes, but the value of your box will always be above.

LiSi Liquid Line Eyeliner in Evil Eye
Evil Eye is a dark brown shade which had the potential of looking good if not for the horrid watery formula of the liner. The formula is terribly clumpy and I constantly had random thick chunks on the wand which made the application very hard and uneven. It seems that people who got their eye liners in shimmery colors didn’t have any problems with the quality so it must be this specific color or batch that’s the problem. I will be tossing this one because I cannot give it to anyone else and subject them to this torture, nor will I be using it myself. I wish I didn’t throw away the box because I suspect this product may have been past the expiration date because I seriously can’t imagine the clumps in the formula were intentional. I mean look at it, it even looks gross in the tube (to be fair it looks exactly like that on the website as well).

Evologie eSystem Duo Pack Intensive Blemish Serum & Stay Clear Cream
These products aren’t new to me and I have used this duo system in the past. The serum really helps reduce the blemishes thanks to the tea tree oil, and the moisturizer is just your regular oil-free cream that you can substitute for any other for a lot less money. You can request a free sample duo on Evologie website, just pay $2.85 S&H.

Nail Rock Nail Wraps in Metallic Red Cheetah
That last line in the product description made me chuckle. I would love to see all of those beauty bloggers endorsing these nail strips and calling them favorites especially since there are much better alternatives out there. These nail wraps are impossible to apply evenly because they’re too thick, which causes inevitable creases and bubbles. I’m not new to this type of product and I had a very hard time trying to adjust them on my nails. I almost didn’t upload the swatch above because it looks too pitiful and did not pass my personal quality control. Too bad these strips didn’t work out because the colors and patterns they have are really fun. To sum it up, I’d say I don’t recommend them to anyone and would rather share a couple of my preferred brands. Incoco Nail Polish Applique is my personal favorite due to a bubble-less application and it really lasted me 14 days without chipping. KISS Nails and Broadway Nails make affordable nail strips that cost about the same or less than Nail Rock and are a lot easier to apply.

Da Vinci Shimmer Powder in Lava
To my surprise I actually really liked this shimmer powder. When my husband came home from work and saw me with it on my eyes he said I look like a dragonfly. From the tone of his voice I could tell it was actually a compliment 🙂 These shimmers are ultra-super-crazy pigmented and I can’t even imagine how long this little container will last me. The color I got is definitely very unique and I have never seen anything like that before.

Here’s a better swatch:

Bvlgari Eau Parfumee au The Blanc Deluxe Soap
This soap smells heavenly and being the huge tea lover I am I was very pleased with this White Tea fragrance. I haven’t used it yet because I just started using a new soap a couple weeks ago but I’m realy looking forwatrd to it. I love Bvlgari and always considered them a nice jewelry brand and I even used to own a bottle of Omnia. This soap is probably my favorite item in the box.

  • The best: The small bar of Bvlgari soap.
  • The worst: I’m torn between LiSi liquid eyeliner with its uneven application, clumpy and runny formula and the Nail Rock nail strips that only very few people seem to be able to apply properly.

The verdict: I’m kind of glad that this box was a miss for the most part, that means I won’t be tempted to resubscribe anytime soon.
