From The Lab Unboxing and Review: October 2013

Purchased by Me

In the month of October all From The Lab subscribers received a full-sized bottle of micellar water with code name AM/PM Cleanser #586. According to the informational booklet, this ground-breaking formula has never been available in the US: it is a one-step cleanser that removes makeup, tones, and treats the skin while eliminating the need to rinse your face.

HOW IT WORKS
From The Lab is a new subscription service that offers its members a sneak peek into the future of the beauty industry by sending up to three full-sized “revolutionary” products every month, straight from the world’s top beauty laboratories. Right now they offer an introductory Charter Membership special for $19.95/month + $5.95 S&H (reg. $29.95). All of the products sent out are paraben-free.

PRODUCT CLAIMS
Specially formulated to benefit all skin types, AP/PM Cleanser #586 delivers multiple benefits to your daily skin care routine. It softens and smoothes dry skin; moisturizes, exfoliates, and tightens pores to even out combination skin; and soothes irritated, distressed skin to reduce blotchiness and minimize inflammation – all while protecting you from the heavy metals and environmental toxins that can accelerate the signs of premature aging.

This one-step cleanser is supposed to be used by gently wiping your eyes, face, and neck with a soaked cotton pad, just like you would with a regular toner. Even though the first ingredient is “water” this cleanser feels more like a watered down hair conditioner, if you know what I mean – it’s slightly goopy and a little sticky, and it really feels like your skin is being conditioned. I must admit that even without washing, my face did feel very clean and fresh, and my pores looked tight, like I just went through my usual routine in one step. I did notice a tingling sensation on my nose and cheeks, which lasted about 15 minutes and then went away completely (thanks to Allantoin in the formula).

I would not surprised if a big brand bought this formula, because it really felt like a product from a luxury line. I didn’t try using it as a makeup remover yet, or around my eye area, because I doubt it will perform as well, but I found that I really enjoyed it in the morning right after waking up.

And here’s a little spoiler for November! According to an interview with one of the From The Lab CEOs, the November product was picked up by a high end beauty brand, and that lineup will hit the stores in February at a $200 price point.

“We’ve already had confirmation that October line is coming out in retail in February at a $200 price point”

– Lorraine Dahlinger, CEO

I realize it says October there, but a CS representative told me the October product was pushed back to November. Isn’t it exciting?

What an interesting concept! I like the idea of a new, not in the market yet product!

I agree, it’s pretty unique. Unfortunately, if you end up loving something, the company doesn’t necessarily know if the formula has been adopted yet; so that’s one con to consider. They sell overstock for the price of the subscription, but once it’s sold out it’s sold out for good.

Did you ever find out which brand adopted this formula?

Hi Gia! — I stopped subscribing so my info is not up to date. As far as I know they actually swapped the products around, and the $200 lineup items were included in the November box instead, which I didn’t get.
