Something Neat for Crow’s Feet

It’s no secret that eyes can be a dead giveaway of one’s bad beauty choices, like excessive sun exposure, lack of sleep, smoking, poor hydration etc. The skin in that area is very thin and fragile, and it’s usually the first place on your face to start showing signs of aging. As a result we see all those fine lines, wrinkles, dryness, and redness that weren’t there before, which sometimes go away when we fix the underlying issue, but other times they’re here to stay. Luckily, these days there is a multitude of invasive and non-invasive beauty treatments to help deal with those changes.

These come in a box of twelve pouches, which is enough for 6 weeks of use if you apply them regularly. When used as an occasional treat the box will last much longer, since each pair is individually wrapped, so they won’t dry out for a while.

Exuviance® Intensive Eye Treatment Pads firm and hydrate the delicate skin around the eye area. These single-use pads contain concentrated ingredients to provide maximum anti-aging benefits in a gentle formulation. Pre-packaged in sets of two, our Intensive Eye Treatment pads are the perfect way to refresh, replenish and revitalize your eyes after a long day.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Butylene Glycol, Lactobionic Acid, Glycerin, Polysorbate 80, Arginine, Retinyl (Vitamin A) Palmitate, Tocopheryl (Vitamin E) Acetate, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (Vitamin C Ester), Disodium EDTA, Chlorphenesin, Methylparaben, CI 19140 (Yellow 5), CI 17200 (Red 33).

Another popular question – “What about active ingredients?” Here’s what makes the magic happen:

  • 10% Lactobionic Acid – Derived from milk sugar, this gentle yet potent antioxidant is used in medicine to prevent oxidative damage to transplant organs. It also acts as a natural humectant, binding water molecules together and creating a moisturizing layer on the skin.
  • Pro-Vitamins A, C, and E are known for being effective in cosmetics for their moisturizing, brightening, and antioxidant properties, that further combat uneven skin tone, while moisturizing and firming the skin.

I’ve been applying them twice a week in the evening, right after removing my makeup, but before layering other skin care products. I usually spread them over clean and dry skin, then follow with my facial serum, then a nighttime moisturizer, and a sleeping pack. After 20 minutes, I gently take off the patches and dab on any remaining liquid [usually it feels more like a sticky serum at that point], and apply eye cream. Naturally, Exuviance® recommends adding one of their own creams as an additional step – Hydrating Eye Complex, – but I’ve never tried it, so I have nothing to add here. I’ve been using an eye cream from a different brand [reviewed here], and that combo worked pretty well for me so far.

I found them to be effective at making my eye area look rejuvenated: the skin appeared supple, and felt soft and smooth to touch. After the first few uses the improvement was temporary, but with each consecutive application the effect stayed longer and longer, and now it lasts for several days. Even though I don’t have many fine lines, my undereye area is now visibly firmer, and feels much tighter than before. Considering that my skin is genetically predisposed to early sagging, this is the type of product I will reach for often to stave off the pull of gravity 😉

Since Lactobionic Acid works in a similar way as Glycolic Acid, it will produce predictable results.

By the way, in case you need any more convincing, here’s the link to another raving review from a blogger, whose opinion I trust. As someone who actually understands the science behind skin care, Nicki claims these are the best at-home eye treatments she’s ever tried.

WHERE TO BUY: $48 USD for a box of 12 packets. Available at Neostrata, Ulta, Dermstore.

P.S.: You know, every time I write a post about anti-aging products, I keep my fingers crossed that I don’t get slammed in the comments for my choices. I just wanted you all to know that I’m in no way age-bashing here. I’m one of those people that don’t like change in general, and who am I kidding, it always feels good when I’m told I look younger. We, millennials, grew up in this crazy culture where aging is something that should be fought, and I’m a product of that upbringing. I hope that one day I can learn to accept the changes my body is going through with grace and dignity, like so many wonderful women in my life have done before me.
