Empties: January & February 2015

This pile looks bigger than usual, but that’s because I collected all of these empty bottles over the past two months. Here are my brief thoughts about each product, and whether or not I thought it would be a worthy purchase.

empties-january-2015BODY

Nubian Heritage Goat’s Milk & Chai Body Wash – a very pleasant body wash with almost whipped cream-like lather. I will definitely consider purchasing another bottle.

LUSH Rose Jam – my favorite body wash from LUSH, it’s an absolute treat for the skin and for the senses, and anyone who likes rose-scented products must try it at least once. Will repurchase again around Christmas time, since it’s a Limited Edition item.

LUSH Snow Fairy – I didn’t care for the scent, it was a bit over the top sweet, which my nose doesn’t find pleasant, but I know a lot of people love this fragrance. Will not be repurchasing.

Glytone Acne Treatment back Spray – bought this to help with breakouts on my back, but in a nutshell this is a very basic 2% salicylic acid toner that many brands make. The spray bottle makes it easy to apply on your back and other hard to reach places where one might develop acne. I switched to using tea tree products, but might consider purchasing this one again if my tea tree stuff stops working.

L’Occitane Amande SUpple Skin Oil – L’Occitane’s Almond line is what started my love for this company, and now, 15 years later, I still buy their products. This almond oil is one of the best things they make, and it’s worth trying at least once. I definitely recommend it.

Code9 by Neogen Gold Cacao Cream – it was quite possibly the richest moisturizer that ever graced my skin. It’s so nourishing, that my pores suffocate within minutes and turn into blackheads! When they said this is formulated for dry skin, they sure meant it. I’ve been using it in my body instead, and it really makes those dry patches disappear immediately. I won’t be purchasing this one again, but if you have extra dry skin, and no moisturizer has ever been rich enough – try this one.

Empties: January & February 2015FACE

MAX Clinic Caviar Massage Oil Foam – You probably noticed that I’ve been slowly overhauling my stash of foaming cleansers lately, because most of them have very high pH that I determined to be the cause of my recent streak of breakouts. This one has a pH7.5, which is a bit too high, but still tolerable, if not used every day. I really liked this cleanser, it felt like oil, that later turned into foam, but I probably won’t be repurchasing.

dear, klairs Rich Moist Foaming Cleanser – hubs just finished this cleanser, and he liked how gentle it felt on the skin, but I don’t think it wowed him enough to repurchase.

GLAMGLOW Powermud Dualcleanse Treatment – I have mixed feelings about this cleanser. I think it’s nice on those days when my face feels like one big clogged greaseball, but it’s definitely not a good choice for dealing with breakouts and irritation, because they tend to get worse. I think it might work for someone with really oily skin, but it’s just a situational treatment for me, so I won’t be purchasing as I have other products that can fill in the spot for much less.

Nuganic Customize Pore Control Essence – I used it up, but didn’t notice any pore control. It didn’t make my skin any worse, but didn’t make it any better either, and definitely didn’t deliver on its promise to normalize oil production and make my pores appear smaller. Whatevs, not repurchasing.

Del’Skin Centella90 Power Ampoule – This ampoule was a very nice discovery, it worked as well as products with snail slime filtrate to regenerate the skin after I stupidly mess with it. I swear, magnifying mirrors are my worst nightmare, and I end up doing things I later regret! This ampoule helps minimize the redness and help heal the skin. I think I might buy it again, considering this bottle is only $13 at TesterKorea.

Sunday Riley Good Genes Treatment – Worked well for me as a mask, but caused redness and small bumps as a serum, so I concluded that it might be a bit too strong for my skin. Still, it’s a pretty good treatment and makes the skin look instantly smooth and plump. I wouldn’t repurchase because of sensitivities, but I wouldn’t say that it’s a bad product either.

DKDN Snail Recover Intensive Serum – Love this serum! It’s super lightweight but very nourishing at the same time, and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. A potential future re-purchase for sure.

MDSUN Super Hydration B Serum – Another fantastic product! I finished the snail serum in January, and this one in February, and both have been very comforting for my skin. They provided hydration, nourishment, and helped soothe redness, while being totally weightless under any moisturizer. The price is a bit steep, but it’s a really good product if you can afford it.

TATCHA Supple Moisture Rich Silk Cream – one of my all-time favorite moisturizers, and also one of my favorite companies. I rave about everything they make, because they really put a lot of thought and effort into everything: from the packaging concept, to the formulas. They also recently came out with TATCHA lipsticks, did you hear about that? I’m still waiting for my link to purchase one, but the swatches online look amazing 🙂

HAIR

Klorane Extra Gentle Dry Shampoo – I only finished one hair product, but it’s a dry shampoo, and I rarely use them in Winter. Klorane dry shampoos seem to work really well for my fine and flat hair, because they don’t add too much texture. I will re-purchase again.

Those are all of my empties for now! What goodies have you emptied out or hit pan on recently? Anything worthy of re-purchasing? hare in the comments below!

You know a product is good if you see it on someone’s empty list!!

    • March 4, 2015 / 8:59 am

My thoughts exactly, Eugenia! That’s why I love stalking other bloggers’ empties lists to see what they used up 🙂

I really need Lush Snow Fairy

    • March 4, 2015 / 8:58 am

I wish LUSH made Snow Fairy and Rose Jam permanent, I miss their Christmas collection already.

I love the MD Sun serum!

    • March 4, 2015 / 8:57 am

That serum is really nice, and played well with a whole bunch of different moisturizers. A winner for sure, even though it’s expensive.

  4. March 3, 2015 / 4:30 pm

Tatcha is on my wish list of things to try. I tried that mdsun serum, and it’s one of my faves. Beautiful bottle, too!

    • March 4, 2015 / 8:57 am

I know right? I love that bottle, too, it made you feel all fancy and pretty just holding it.

I liked the Max Clinic oil massage foam but the Nuganic Pore Control Essence didn’t do a thing for me either. I need to try the GlamGlow cleanser on my super-oily skin.

    • March 4, 2015 / 8:56 am

I liked that cleanser too, and I think my PH strips might have gone crazy, because it’s a mix of oil and foam. Even though the pH is on the higher end, it still didn’t cause my skin to break out or dry out. If I made a list of the best Memebox products of all times, this cleanser would def be there!

You are a true beauty blogger, girl, because you empty those products! I can’t say the same but I know I need try that Nubian Heritage brand. I think they’re related to Shea Moisture and my beloved Shea Moisture is EVERYTHING.

    • March 4, 2015 / 8:54 am

That’s right, Brittany, Nubian Heritage is a sister brand to SheaMoisture, and their products are fabulous! Finishing all these bottles and jars helps me be less of a compulsive shopper, now that I started documenting my empties.

  7. March 3, 2015 / 9:13 pm

    That’s a lot of empties!

    • March 4, 2015 / 8:49 am

Right? Looking at those piles is oddly satisfying, and also gives me an excuse to buy more.

Holy crap that’s a lot of empties! I have and love some of the same things!

    • March 4, 2015 / 8:49 am

Girl, that’s two months worth of empties, so I cheated a little bit, but yes, I managed to finish a lot of products!

You finished a lot. I’m impressed. The only thing I finished were books!!

    • March 4, 2015 / 8:48 am

I used to love reading books in HS and college, but I feel like I would much rather spend that extra time blogging than reading (still read news and science articles online though). My MIL reads books like a champ, too, I feel like she goes to the library daily 🙂

  10. March 4, 2015 / 12:18 am

Go girl with your empties. I have mix feelings about a lot of products from Glam Glow but I think it’s because their masks make me mad that they are so expensive and then they dry up so quickly.

    • March 4, 2015 / 8:46 am

I’m also conflicted about GlamGlow stuff. They dry out fast indeed, so you are almost forced to finish your products quickly.

You won in the empties department!!! Skincare is the fastest to consume, followed w/ bath and body. Great job lady!

    • March 4, 2015 / 8:39 am

Thanks girl! It felt weird hoarding all of those empty bottles for two months.

i need a good dry shampoo

    • March 4, 2015 / 8:40 am

A good dry shampoo can be really hard to find sometimes, I swear most of them make my hair look gray or dirty. Klorane is one of my current faves, and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg 🙂

Now, that’s a pile of empties!

    • March 5, 2015 / 11:05 am

I know right? Although I kind of cheated and this pile is from two months, but still!

    • March 5, 2015 / 11:05 am

Yep, it has come 🙁 Next time I will stock up better during the Boxing Day BOGO sale. At least I got enough marzipan soaps to last all year 🙂

  14. March 4, 2015 / 12:10 pm

I was wondering about that Glamglow cleanser! Sounds like it would make a nice once-in-a-while cleanser but it doesn’t sound like routine material.

    • March 5, 2015 / 11:30 am

Indeed! I think it’s nice for all skin types, but only those with really oily skin should use it regularly.

    • March 5, 2015 / 11:04 am

I know, right? I adore it with all my heart, and definitely going to stock up better next time.

    • March 5, 2015 / 11:07 am

Girl, this is from two months, and some of these were nearly empty for a while now. It was just a matter of time until I finished them, and it just so happened that I emptied them all within the same 2-month span. Usually my empties are much humbler 🙂

I see many of my favorites! I adore the L’Occitane Almond Oil & LUSH Rose Jam!

    • March 5, 2015 / 11:06 am

Yes! This was probably one of my favorite piles of empties, because I loved most of these products.

  16. March 4, 2015 / 7:03 pm

Thanks for sharing all of these! I love empties posts!!!!

    • March 5, 2015 / 11:22 am

I sure did, even though it’s a collective pile from two months!

How do you know the ph levels of your cleansers? Is it only cleansers you worry about the ph levels or other skincare products? Thanks!

    • March 5, 2015 / 11:18 am

Hey Christy! I recently bought a pack of pH strips on Amazon (these >> http://amzn.to/1Fe55I1 ), and tested every cleanser in my rotation. Ideally they should be within 5 and 7, and sometimes 7.5 is okay too. Oil cleansers have higher pH and should be followed by a low pH foaming cleanser, like Cetaphil. Regular skin care, like moisturizers and serums, is usually within 5 and 6, so it’s really only the cleansers that we should worry about the most. Hope that helps!

    • March 5, 2015 / 11:22 am

Bummer! I think their products are a hit and a miss for me, but some of them I absolutely adore, like Tinglexfoliate. Can’t live without that thing, only wish it wasn’t so expensive.
