Diptyque Baies Candle for Black Friday 2019
Would you buy a $65 candle? If you asked me this question a few years ago, I’d tell you that spending this much on a candle is totally crazy. However, I noticed an interesting trend emerging among fellow millennials: we are slowly but surely normalizing luxury goods. Suddenly, “investment bags” are a thing, and $65 candles are the new normal for decorating our minimalist homes. I don’t know when my perception did a complete 180, but I’ve been buying Diptyque candles for a while now because – wait for it – I think they might actually be worth the splurge.
I tried my fair share of luxury candles, many of them even pricier than Diptyque. However, something about Diptyque blends makes them exceptionally fragrant. If I have only 10 minutes to make my house smell nice before the guests arrive, this is the only brand I will reach for. Other candles can take up to an hour, sometimes longer, to do the same, which is fine if you’re not always rushing everything last minute like yours truly, lol!
That said, Diptyque Baies ($65) has been my personal favorite so far. It has that dark, gourmand sweetness from blackcurrants and bitter-crisp floral hints of Bulgarian roses that make up a delightful combination. Baies is a companion scent to L’Ombre dans l’Eau Eau de Parfum, which means “A Shadow in the Water” in English. A very poetic name, don’t you think?
As a company that puts a lot of emphasis on quality over quantity, Diptyque doesn’t partake in Black Friday sales. However, they did release a limited quantity of Baies candles in special edition packaging that were available for 4 days only and cost $74 instead of the usual $65. This year Baies got dressed up in a chic black & white glass vessel adorned with roses, blackcurrant leaves and berries that compose the main notes of this classic fragrance. I was a fan of last year’s design, but this one is, even more, up my alley. These pretty jars are also reusable and can be easily cleaned out and repurposed to hold makeup brushes, pens, or cotton swabs.
What do you think of the limited edition design? Have you tried Diptyque fragrances or candles before? Let me know in the comments!
