Cravebox Unboxing and Review: Cooking Light “Fast Meals” 2013

I entered the drawing for the Cooking Light Cravebox just to be practical, because they always send a good variety of food products and discount coupons, and I didn’t regret it at all! I don’t think I would have tried Ras el Hanout otherwise and now it’s one of my favorite spice mixes.

POPCHIPS Salsa Tortilla Chips
My husband and I shared this little bag of “Doritos for grown-ups” and we both were pleasantly surprised by the taste. We will definitely try more in different flavors.

Pure Via Stevia
Remember what I said about practical? Getting a box of stevia might not be the most exciting thing, but it’s certainly something I use for cooking every week. I have never seen this brand before, probably just never noticed it at the store because it’s a little more expensive than what I normally buy. Each packet equals to two teaspoons of sugar.

Equal 0 Calorie Sweetener
Just like the Stevia packets above, this 0 calorie sweetener is also going to be used mostly for cooking and for slightly sweetening drinks. I make a lot of iced tea during the warm months, and we like them sweetened usually with honey or stevia. The box also came with a colorful booklet filled with yummy and easy dessert recipes, and I’m going to try and make that Blueberry Mousse this weekend ๐Ÿ™‚

STASH Herbal Tea Sampler
This tea sampler will be used for making iced beverages. We really go through a lot of liquid in this house, so this box is only going to last about a week or two at most. Still, that’s a box I don’t have to buy ๐Ÿ™‚ The package includes 9 different flavors, with 2 tea bags of each, this is enough to make a small pitcher of iced tea for the day.

Nabisco Newtons Whole Triple Berry Chewy Cookies
Newton’s bars are an all-time classic so they don’t need a special review, since we all know what they are. I personally can’t eat the whole thing by myself because it’s too sweet, so I usually cut them into little squares and have one with my evening cup of tea. My husband apparently has some bad childhood memories about them, so he refuses to eat them ๐Ÿ™‚ His loss!

ZonePerfect Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar
I always carry protein bars in my purse for a quick snack on the go. I must admit, I really do hate them, almost every single bar I have ever tried tasted like cardboard to me. But when you’re hungry, you don’t really have a choice.

McCormick Perfect Pinch Southwest Sweet ‘n Smoky and Gourmet Collection Ras el Hanout
I love spices and always happy to add more delightful blends to my collection! Luckily, I didn’t already have either of these, so they were the highlight of my box. Ras el Hanout is perfect with lamb dishes, and I already have a few fun recipes planned for the next few weeks. Southwest Sweet ‘n Smoky improved the taste of my chicken dishes, and I plan to use it a lot for grilling this summer.

  • The best: Spices – they made the entire box worth it for me.
  • The worst: ZonePerfect bars, I really hate them but they’re practical, and eventually will be eaten.

The verdict: I was very pleased with this box. I knew exactly what I was paying for and had an approximate idea of what the contents might be. Overall I feel like I got my money’s worth, and more if you count the free product and discount coupons. Cravebox plans to release one Cooking Light box every few months, and I’m definitely going to purchase the next one that comes out.

It was nice to read this. Now I know not to try the ZonePerfect bars. I’ll just pass that to my bf who is willing to eat those in the name of being healthy and fit. I do love the box and the spices was a great surprise for me.

I guess it’s a healthier snack alternative to, let’s say, a burger, but I seriously think these bars are awful. I hope your bf enjoys it, though!

Yep, I agree, it was a good box ๐Ÿ™‚ From all of the different Cravebox varieties I always recommend the food ones the most. If you are fairly adventurous with cooking, it always ends up being a good value for the money. So far I have used every single product and every coupon but one, because my local Meijer doesn’t seem to carry that particular brand of packaged salad mixes.
