This summer COVERGIRL added two more products to their LASHBLAST makeup line: The Super Sizer Mascara with its uniquely shaped wand & Intensify Me Liquid Liner with an intriguing paddle felt tip. I got to try both of them a couple months ago but it took me a while to summarize my thoughts, especially since there is a learning curve to using both of these.
COVERGIRL The Super Sizer Mascara is designed to give your lashes lots of volume thanks to what the brand calls a “lash styler” – a plastic wand shaped to deposit a lot of product, at once, so the mascara hits the lashes before the wand does. Lash styler design features longer bristles alternating with small bristles, and they’re all placed in groups to give the lashes the most dramatic look.
It’s recommended to curl the wand updard and toward yourself when using The Super Sizer Mascara – I totally ignored this info when I first tried it in action. After all, applying mascara is not rocket science… or is it? Go figure, I hated the way my lashes came out, and I couldn’t understand what in the world I was doing wrong. Instead of curling the wand, I just did the usual strokes, which resulted in clumpy lashes and lots of smudged mascara. When I finally learned the trick, I completely fell in love with this one and it’s currently in my daily makeup rotation. If you’re doing everything correctly, the lashes will come out curled, defined, with lots of volume and product at the base that creates the effect of tightlining: bigger, more awake-looking eyes.
COVERGIRL The Super Sizer Mascara comes in three colors: Black Brown, Black, and Very Black.
COVERGIRL Intensify Me Liquid Liner was included in my promo box, too, but if you recall any of my selfies you probably know I’m not a big eyeliner person. I was very lucky that my eyes are shaped in a way that they don’t really need eyeliner to look defined so I rarely use it, but a dramatic wing is a whole different story.
The liner comes with a standard felt tip, but it doesn’t have that usual pointy shape – it’s a dual-sided paddle! The idea behind it is to give the user the ability to quickly draw both thin and thick lines, depending on which side of the tip they choose to use. I had a pretty bad learning curve with this one, to be honest. I’m not that great at applying eyeliner to begin with, and this one was particularly challenging. No matter what I did, my wings were not all neat and pointy like I wanted them to be. And even after all this time I’m still struggling.
Swatch reference: My skin tone is between MAC NC15 and NW15 with yellowish hue and neutral undertones. Sometimes I can wear NW20 in the Summer. I thought this would be useful to know, since all screens show colors differently, and I also don’t have a studio setup with consistent lighting. Hope that helps!
In the end, I concluded that Intensify Me Liquid Liner is probably best suited for those who prefer bold eyeliner looks [like a dramatic cat eye or wings for miles], because while it can definitely draw a thin line for everyday wear with some effort, a pointy felt tip will do a much better job and a lot quicker, too. I personally don’t reach for it often [read: never].
COVERGIRL Intensify Me Liquid Liner comes in just one shade – Intense Black.
