Clean Girl Summer with My Favorite Skincare Basics from NOW®
I can’t get enough of the clean girl aesthetic ever since it became trendy on IG and TikTok a couple years ago. Think clean lines, simple silhouettes, earthy colors, and just keeping things natural in general. The trend is still going strong this summer with slicked back glossy hair, breathable fabrics, and minimal makeup with focus on skincare – and I’m here for it! As a skincare girlie, beauty products have always played a big role in my personal idea of self-care; there’s something so calming and relaxing about using all of those lotions and potions.
In preparation for the hot weather, I stocked up on some of my long-time NOW® favorites that got me through many summers, and I’d love to share them with you. These products feature simple formulas with focus on naturally-derived and botanical ingredients that make my skin feel soft and comfortable even during the hot summer months. I’ve been using all of these for years and went through several bottles of each. And you know a product must be good when a “skinfluencer” with an infinite supply of skincare products is constantly using the same ones, haha! 1 // NOW® Solutions Aloe Soothing Gel ($8.99 – using since 2017) – I think everyone should have a tub of aloe vera gel in their beauty cabinet. It’s so good at cooling and moisturizing overheated skin in the summer, even if you don’t get sunburned often. This particular body lotion goes a step further and includes additional refreshing ingredients, such as skin-replenishing Vitamin E, Allantoin, Arginine, and Panthenol, and even soothing Cucumber Extract. I actually find the traditional aloe gel to be too sticky for my taste so I appreciate that NOW® Aloe Soothing Gel instantly absorbs and sets on my skin with a powdery finish instead. Oh, and did I mention that it smells like a lavender field? Because it does, and I love the smell of lavender! Fun fact: Did you know that NOW® Lavender Essential oil is the brand’s top selling product worldwide?

2 // NOW® Solutions Soothing Rose Facial Cleansing Oil ($16.99 – using since 2020) – Originally launched in 2020, this cleansing oil quickly joined the ranks of my most used products from NOW®. It’s not one of those bi-phase cleansing oils that turns milky on contact with water, but rather a true oil that you may want to use along with a washcloth. I appreciate how easily it dissolves my makeup and lifts sunscreen particles and impurities from the surface of the skin, plus it has a wonderful natural aroma from real Damask rose absolute that further enhances the experience. I love this oil for never causing trouble for my skin; it’s my go-to after harsh peels, prescription topicals, and when my skin is just not feeling its best. It always leaves my face delightfully moisturized and soft, but I like to follow up with a foaming cleanser just to make sure all of the dissolved makeup is properly removed. In the morning, however, I use this cleansing oil on its own to remove overnight skincare and accumulated skin oils, and it’s perfect! The base consists of Sunflower oil rich in Linoleic acid, and also Jojoba oil, vegetable Squalane, and Vitamin E, so it can work for all skin types.
Ingredients: Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil*, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Polyglyceryl-2 Sesquioleate (plant based) & Tocopherol & Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Vegetable Squalane, Tocopherol (Vitamin E) (non-GMO soy), Polyglyceryl-2 Caprate (plant based), Rosa Damascena (Rose) Absolute.
3 // NOW® Solutions European Clay Powder ($6.99 – using since 2015) – Skincare doesn’t get more pure than this! The “formula”, if you can even call it that, contains just one ingredient – mineral montmorillonite, a naturally-occurring powdered mud that works wonders as a DIY clay mask when mixed with water. I’m a sweaty gal so I go through a lot of clay masks in the summer, and this one is just so easy to use. I add it to my Rose Cleansing Oil to make it a little extra scrubby, but typically I just mix some powder in my palm with a splash of water, slather it over my whole face, and leave it on the skin for 10-15 minutes. This mask helps remove excess oil and unclog pores, making them appear smaller and cleaner.
Ingredients: Montmorillonite.
4 // NOW® Solutions Nourish Facial Oil ($14.99 – using since 2019) – This oil has so many uses in my routine! I use it as a serum, a moisturizer, a cuticle oil, to tame frizzy hair, and as a spot treatment for extra dry areas. The blend features thicker, more viscous oils so it’s perfectly suited as a dry skin treatment. Even though I have combination skin, I still prefer to use this one vs the Balance Facial Oil, because it doesn’t actually clog my pores and I like that it won’t immediately absorb, leaving the skin soft and glowing for a long time. The blend features multiple excellent carrier oils – shea, avocado, sea buckthorn, and sesame seed – while the bright fragrance of ylang-ylang flowers, orange peel, and bergamot fruit transports the senses to a tropical paradise. This oil always smells like summer to me!
Ingredients: Shea Butter Ethyl Esters, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Hippophae Rhamnoides (Sea Buckthorn) Seed Oil, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil*, Vegetable Squalane, Citrus Sinensis (Orange) Peel Oil, Cananga Odorata (Ylang Ylang) Flower Oil, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Tocopherol (Vitamin E) (non-GMO soy), Daucus Carota (Carrot) Seed Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil.
These high quality basics will make perfect additions to any easy and effortless beauty routine, and they especially come in handy during the summer months when the last thing I want to do is layer a bunch of different products that will inevitably just melt off the moment I step outside. I’ve been using and enjoying all of them for years and went through countless bottles, so to me this is as good as it gets. Say good bye to overly complicated routines, and hello to #CleanGirlSummer!
