Lip gloss is one of my many weaknesses, and today I have eight of them from Borghese Eclissare Color Eclipse Collection to show you. There are nine shades total in the collection: Spark, Odyssey, Darkling, Simmer, Brightside, Gilt, Omen, Chaos, Brink; and I got to swatch all of them except Spark.

Ultra-reflective pigment and pearl deliver a luminous glow.”

Chaos is a cool iridescent shimmer with lots of silvery and blue’ish particles. It doesn’t look particularly impressive on its own, but layers beautifully with lipsticks and other lip glosses.

Simmer is neutral iridescent shimmer with pink, olive, and platinum particles. It doesn’t look like much on the lips, but if given the chance to catch some light, it makes my pout look like a piece of jewelry!

Brightside is a warm iridescent shimmer with very fine silver, gold, and purple particles. They reflect the light in a way that makes the lips look full and irresistibly smooth without adding much color. It works as a great topper for lipsticks, but I like wearing it alone for that perfecting effect. It would be a nice pick for someone concerned about lip lines, because it makes them invisible.

Gilt is a neutral iridescent shimmer with fine orange, silver, and gold particles. It gives a slight hint of orange tint to the lips and also makes them look smooth and juicy.

Odyssey is a warm bronze shimmer with silver and gold particles. It’s fairly noticeable on pale lips like mine, but if yours are more pigmented, it will show up as a hint of bronze. It will look stunning over darker shades of lipstick!

Brink is a neutral dark brown with a little bit of rose mixed in. It contains gold and pink particles, but it’s not nearly as shimmery as other glosses in the collection. It’s a really unique color up close, and neither wine nor oxblood would be accurate descriptions for it. It appears brown on the lips, and even though I normally don’t wear colors like that, I thought this one was very flattering and not old-fashioned at all. Brink has potential to look amazing on every complexion, from very fair like myself to very dark.

Darkling is a neutral deep red with a little bit of gold shimmer, just enough to reflect the light in the most flattering way. And hello, it’s none other than Pantone Color of the Year for 2015 – Marsala!

Omen is a gorgeous neutral purple/olive duochrome that shows up as soft lavender with pink shimmer on the lips. I kinda wish it was more pigmented, but I still like it the way it is.

All nine colors in the collection contain ultra-reflective shimmers that catch even the faintest source of light, and some even make your lips look like a disco ball. The formula is pretty consistent across all colors – it’s very thick, balmy, and sticky. It’s not the kind of stickiness that makes your lips feel like they’re sealed shut, but rather the kind that helps the gloss stay on longer. The packaging looks very luxe, and I especially like the gradient coloring on the cap.

Borghese Eclissare Color Eclipse ColorGlass Lip Gloss – the applicator is a standard doe foot

The wand applicator is a standard doe foot, but that particular shape is best suited for runnier lip glosses, IMO. With a formula this thick, I needed to dip the wand 5-10 times to apply enough product to cover my lips for the swatches. I think a paddle or a brush applicator would have worked a lot better for these.

The coverage varies: there were some shades that barely showed up on my lips at all [I bet they were meant to be used as lipstick toppers], while others provided rich pigment and looked almost like a lipstick + lip gloss combo. Darker shades tend to settle in lip creases and cracks, which looks unappealing from very up close, but from a normal distance the effect is quite youthful and flattering. Look at the swatches above, would you have noticed the lines if I didn’t mention them just now?

The longevity on me was fairly consistent from color to color, and all of them were above my expectations for lip gloss. Please refer to Product Rating area below to see the breakdown and final score for each individual shade.

On the lips – “Darkling”

If I had to purchase these on my own, I would probably buy a variety just so I could have them in several colors. My favorites are Darkling [pictured above], Gilt, and Omen.

THE VERDICT
I was impressed with the formula of Borghese Eclissare Color Eclipse ColorGlass lip glosses, particularly with the longevity and the pigmentation of several shades, and of course, the beautiful packaging. I wasn’t too keen on having to dip the wand 10 times to achieve the desired coverage, which was a result of less than ideal wand shape for this consistency.
