About Birchbox:
Birchbox is a subscription service that delivers a box of luxury samples to your doorstep every month. Each box is customized to match your beauty profile to ensure you get the samples you want, you will usually get 4-5 samples and sometimes even full-sized products! The samples vary from make-up and skincare, to food and beauty accessories, and each box is carefully hand-wrapped. At $10/month Birchbox is one of the cheapest monthly beauty subscriptions out there, the value of each box usually ranges from at least $15 and can be as high as $60. They also have a nice rewards program, where for each product survey you complete you get 10 points, every 100 points earns you $10 in Birchbox credits which you can redeem in their online store for full-sized products.

I have a love-hate relationship with Nick Chavez hair care. For instance, I really hate most of their styling products but I like their shampoos and conditioners, so I was happy to receive this sample and not something else made by the brand. I have not tried this particular shampoo before and I can say I liked the way it made my hair feel. It’s sulfate-free which means it’s color-safe and overall better for the hair in the long run, and as an added bonus it contains UV filters that protect the hair color from fading even further.
This is another great-sized deluxe sample! The tube has plenty of product for me to try and decide whether or not I like it enough to purchase a full size. I enjoyed this sample quite a bit for its lovely fragrance and the way my skin felt after shaving. Would I dish out $20 for a bottle of shaving cream? Probably not, but I found a good and more affordable alternative from Aubrey Organics, you should definitely check it out if you’re in the market for this type of product. Some ladies over at MUT recommend using plain hair conditioner for shaving, apparently it works just as well.
I was afraid my sample would be half-empty, like it always happens with these tiny makeup tubes. Lucky for me it was full, actually it was almost bursting out kind of full. It looks, feels, and smells the same as Supergoop’s face serum aka like white liquidy sunscreen. I wouldn’t really call this a primer, and it certainly didn’t prime my face, but I can see myself using it for extra sun protection as a layer between my moisturizer and an actual makeup primer.
This is the teeniest, littlest, cutest and adorablest eye shadow sample ever and it looks so well-made! I can magnify it and if I didn’t know that it’s a quarter-sized sample I would think it’s an actual full-sized product. That’s how well-made they are! Anyhow, Burnt Umber is a deep chocolate brown matte color and it looks like it’s very pigmented. I already have a similar color in my collection so I plan to put this sample in one of my gift goodie bags and because of that I can’t really swatch it for you. In life the color looks exactly like in the picture.
I already have tiny emery boards in all of my cosmetic bags and purse pockets, and I use a glass board for doing my manicures at home so this board, while being super cute, did not add much value to my box. It seems like it’s well-made and the pattern was inspired by Madewell’s Spring 2013 collection, which is a pretty neat touch. I hope I can find a good home for it 🙂

What’s a glass board? That sounds interesting!
Glass (or crystal) nail files are literally made of glass and they’re very popular in Europe. They’re permanently etched and never wear down, they’re also considered to be more hygienic because you can easily sanitize them by washing them with water or putting them under a UV lamp for a couple seconds. They’re much gentler on your nails too, which is the main reason I prefer to use one.
I got the same file in my box, and unfortunately it isn’t glass. What’s causing the confusion is the clear plastic case it comes in.
I think this is the first time in a while that Birchbox is better than Ipsy! Seems like some decent products to try, have fun 😀

Yep, it seems like Birchbox really stepped up their game and I see more and more boxes containing deluxe-sized products unlike several months ago 🙂
I think this is the first time in months that I’ve been impressed with a Birchbox opening!
I’m glad to see that Birchbox improved so much. I hope this is not just a one-time fluke 🙂
We got the same box this month :). I just posted the review of my March Birchbox on my blog too. It is the best Birchbox I’ve ever received!
