Birchbox Review: December 2012

December will be the second month of my three-month gift subscription. This month’s theme is “All Wrapped Up” where we get to try products that would make us look our best before, at and after the holiday parties.

About Birchbox: 
Birchbox is a subscription service that delivers a box of luxury samples to your doorstep every month. Each box is customized to match your beauty profile to ensure you get the samples you want, you will usually get 4-5 samples and sometimes even full-sized products! The samples vary from make-up and skincare, to food and beauty accessories, and each box is carefully hand-wrapped. At $10/month Birchbox is one of the cheapest monthly beauty subscriptions out there, the value of each box usually ranges from at least $15 and can be as high as $60. They also have a nice rewards program, where for each product survey you complete you get 10 points, every 100 points earns you $10 in Birchbox credits which you can redeem in their online store for full-sized products.

Benefit It’s Potent! Eye Cream 
This eye cream came in the cutest little box, and I really appreciated the time and effort they must have spent on this sample. I’ve only applied it once so far but it felt really nice and non-greasy on the eyes, and absorbed almost immediately. I’m looking forward to using it up and hopefully we’ll be able to see some results by that time.



Kérastase Resistance Ciment Thermique 
Sounds like an ideal product for me, I constantly blow-dry, curl and iron my hair in addition to coloring and all these years I’ve been using all sorts of oils, leave-in treatments and deep conditioners to help with the inevitable breakage. I actually vaguely remember trying this product several years ago but I don’t recall if I liked it or not. Either way, since this is a leave-in treatment you only need to use a dime-sized amount at a time, which means these two samples will last me quite a while.


Aerie Shimmer Eau de Toilette 
The best way I could describe this sexy fragrance is the following made-up situation: imagine yourself at a party among your friends and/or family, you grab your husband’s/boyfriend’s hand and spend a few private moments alone in another room, away from the prying eyes and noise. It is a scent of a woman’s perfume mixed with a man’s cologne that you can faintly trace on yourself even after both of you returned to the party and act like you’ve been there the whole time.


[Extra] Chuao Chocolatier Assorted ChocoPod 
My ChocoPod came in Salted Chocolate Crunch flavor and it was absolutely delicious! The bread crumbs were crispy abd the chocolate had just the right amount of sea salt to still be considered a sweet treat rather than sweet and salty. I will definitely be buying more of these with my Birchbox points in the future.


Rent the Runway Gift Card
I can see many people being upset about receiving this gift certificate, it’s valid on any accessories and/or dress rentals of $125 or more aka you have to spend at least $75 on a piece you won’t even get to keep. Unfortunately, most of us don’t attend any forma events where wearing an expensive designer’s dress is expected so I feel like a lot of these discounts will end up in the trash.
