Birchbox April 2014 Review, Pictures

This month Birchbox is all about giving us some ideas about things to do on those rainy days: from cute mani tutorials to frizz-proofing our locks. But personally for me this month was great because I got SIX products, meaning I got $6 back in points 🙂 Yay! Let’s see what I got.

HOW IT WORKS
Birchbox is a subscription service that delivers a box of luxury beauty samples to your doorstep every month. Subscribers receive 4-6 samples and sometimes even full-sized products. At $10/month Birchbox is one of the cheapest monthly beauty subscriptions out there, the value of each box usually ranges from at least $15 and can be as high as $60. They also have a nice rewards program, where for each completed product survey you get 10 points, every 100 points earns you $10 in Birchbox credits – a currency to use in their online store for full-sized products and even gift subscriptions.

theBalm Cosmetics How ‘Bout Them Apples? Cheek & Lip Cream  – fun pin up packaging

theBalm Cosmetics How ‘Bout Them Apples? Cheek & Lip Cream – whoa! I’d love some of that pie!

Each box contained one of 52 cards with Rainy Day activity tips.

Number 4 Clarifying Shampoo & Lumiere d’Hiver Reconstructing Masque – These mask and shampoo contain some seriously amazing ingredients to  restore vibrancy and promote soft and silky strands, all without using sulfates and parabens.

derma e Hydrating Night Crème derma e is one of those high quality drugstore brands, like Burt’s Bees, and I don’t think I was ever disappointed with their products. I only used this nighttime moisturizer a few times so far, but each time I woke up with super soft and supple skin. It feels very gentle, too, so it might even be suitable for people with sensitive complexions.

Color Club Nail Polish in Breakfast At… – Color Club Gala’s Gem Collection is an exclusive collaboration with blogger, stylist, and DJ Gala Gonzalez. Each one of these soft pearly pastels was inspired by the retro lacquers from the 70s and 80s.

theBalm Cosmetics How ‘Bout Them Apples? Cheek & Lip Cream in Pie – I read about this palette on Temptalia, and she wasn’t too impressed. I trust her opinion a lot when it comes to products I know nothing about, so I was unsure about this sample. Pie is described as a medium rose with hints of coral, and it’s actually quite balmy. The color beautiful but unfortunately not long-lasting: it melted off my face after 4 hours, and on the lips it barely lasted 2 1/2’ish. I know now that I won’t be ordering the complete palette, even though it’s super cute.

[Extra] KIND Healthy Grains Bar – I can see a lot of subscribers complaining to Birchbox about this sample, but I actually liked it. I normally buy the regular KIND bars, and I had no idea these flat ones even existed. I think I still prefer the original bars more, but it was very fun to try something new from the brand I love. I think I would have liked it more of it didn’t have that many seeds and if it was a tad bit sweeter.

THE VERDICT
I got some really great samples to try this month, wouldn’t you agree? There is this really cute nail polish in trendy pastel color, high quality skin & hair care, a healthy snack, and a darling blush/lip tint that so many bloggers are buzzing about lately. I wish all of my Birchboxes were more like this one 🙂
