Beauty Fix Review: Summer 2012

About Beauty Fix:
Beauty Fix is a quarterly beauty subscription service curated by Dermstore.com. Every 3 months you will receive a wide selection of high end beauty products to choose from based on your beauty profile. You can select up to 8 products and a cute make-up bag. They usually offer dozens and dozens of options ranging from deluxe-sized and full-sized items to beauty accessories like hair brushes and callus stones. The subscription costs $49,99/quarter but the box value will always be way above, and the range can be anywhere between $200 and $400 depending on the products you pick. Right now you can get your first box $20 cheaper by using the refer-a-friend program. Click here to join Beauty Fix.

Yay!! I finally received my first Beauty Fix box filled with goodies I picked myself! Since I dropped Glossybox and Beauty Army, I now have the budget to subscribe to both quarterly boxes – Beauty Fix and Test Tube, which will actually end up saving me $32 this quarter if we count the discounted first box. I think that’s a pretty good trade! Some of these items came as sets, but I will list them individually so don’t get surprised that there are more than 9 numbers on the list.

1. Nailtiques Formula 2 Kit
I have very dry, thin and weak nails, so take Biotin and Calcium every day but nothing seems to help to make them stronger. Naturally, as soon as I saw this kit as one of my options I immediately added it to my selection. For such a great price I can definitely give it a try!

2. Nailtiques Nail Moisturizer (1oz)
Another great product to my nail rescue! This cream looked a little thick at first but it melted right away into a nice milky emulsion as soon as it contacted the warmth of my hands, which was a nice surprise. Nailtiques recommends putting it under your nail tips for the best moisturizing effect. My super dry toenails are screaming “Thank you!” 🙂

3. Nailtiques Nail Protein & Color Laquer Kit
The protein treatment in this kit is a full-sized version of the previously mentioned Formula 2 for thin and weak nails. Good, that way I have more of it because I like it already! The nail polish came in Moscow shadow – it’s a nice deep red with blue undertones, perfect for my skin complexion because it’s more on a cool side. This polish also works the same as the protein treatment because it contains the same ingredients, so my nails will be getting a treat with each new layer.

And here is what the color looks like on my nails.

4. Skindinavia Makeup Finishing Spray (4oz)
Here’s another product that I have never used before, but thanks to Beauty Fix I can give it a try. I read many great reviews about Skindinavia finishing sprays, so I’m very excited to start using it.

5. 3LAB Perfect Cleansing Foam (3.4oz.)
This thick unscented cleanser felt really nice and creamy on my skin, leaving it almost squeaky clean without making it feel tight or dry. I love that they included so many different natural oils in the formula: Olive oil, Crambe Abyssinica Seed oil, Soybean oil, Orange peel oil, Lavender oil – just to name a few. It also contains dozens of different herb extracts, beeswax and ceramides.

6. Exuviance Rejuvenating Treatment Masque (2.5oz)
This brings back memories 🙂 I haven’t used a peel-off masque in a very long time, so I was happy to see one among my options. I like that it stayed on without cracking even though I was talking and eating with it still on my face. My skin felt soft, hydrated and clean afterward.

7. Murad Skin Perfecting Primer – Matte Finish (1oz)
I have combination skin so this primer will come in handy, especially during the summer months. It has a slight tint that looks super flattering with my light cool skin tone, so I’m really glad I picked it 🙂

8. Murad Eye Lift Perfector – Natural (0.06oz)
Even though this treatment is slightly tinted, it didn’t look like makeup at all which is great. I love that it completely blended with my skin, made it look and feel tighter, brighter and more moisturized.

9. Nick Chavez Amazon Hair Body Building Styling Clay (4oz)
I would have never given this a try, glad I read the reviews first! Problem is, I have flat and fine hair so most of the heavy pomades and clays usually made it look greasy and not very pretty. Looks like this particular styling clay might be a different story after all. Most positive reviews came from people with the same hair problems as I have, so I really hope it works for me too.

10. Stila Set and Correct Baked Powder Trio (0.16oz)
I’m a big fan of Stila cosmetics, so I immediately grabbed this powder even though I already have about 7 different ones sitting around. [I’m not kidding, I really have way too many boxes of pressed powder!]

It kind of works in the same way as Guerlain Meteorites by evening out the skin tone and making minor discolorations less visible without looking like you are wearing makeup. Simply shave off the desired amount and apply all over your face with a wide powder brush.

11. Beauty Fix Make Up Bag
This cute little tube-shaped make up bag was an extra, I love that it has a little round pocket on one side with a tiny mirror in it! I don’t think it’s sold anywhere so I can’t really give it any value, but it’s well-made and I’ll enjoy using it every day.

Well, this concludes my review of my Summer-2012 Beauty Fix sample box. I didn’t select the items for the monetary value, instead I went for the things I wanted to try the most. I knew I’d be getting my money’s worth either way! Overall, it was a great experience, my box was delivered only 6 days after I placed the order, and all of the items arrived in perfect condition. I’m definitely going to keep this subscription!
