Beauty Box 5 May 2017 Review

As promised, today I am sharing my quick review of Beauty Box 5 May 2017 box. Yesterday I said it’s a June box, but that was a mistake – my bad! BB5 ships later in the month, and sometimes my box arrives very close to the beginning of the next one, so it’s easy to get confused. As you know, these boxes always have a monthly theme, and in May the theme was “Summer Date Night”.

HOW IT WORKS:

For $12/month subscribers will receive a box filled with a carefully selected mixture of five travel-sized, deluxe-sized and full-sized cosmetic products from luxury brands, commonly known brands, niche brands, eco-conscious and even vegan brands. Aimed at introducing women to new cosmetic products and educating them on best practices, Beauty Box 5 scours the market to find the best products for your lifestyle. Click here to subscribe.

Top to Bottom:  Nanacoco Jumbo Eye & Lip Pencil Lime Festival, Jelly Pong Pong Bare Necessities Highighting Pencil, Cougar Beauty 24 Hour Liquid Lipstick Mulberry

CONTENTS:

1 // Cougar Beauty 24 Hour Liquid Lipstick – Liquid lipsticks are all the rage right now,and that’s one of the recent beauty trends that I actually really like. I was never a fan of the Instagram brow, or harsh contouring, or disco ball strobing, or all things unicorn and mermaid, but liquid lipsticks I can totally get behind. Cougar Beauty is not a brand I was previously familiar with, but I’m always game to try something new. There were color variations in the box, and I received Mulberry, which is best described as a purple grape creme. Unfortunately the color didn’t look great on me so I gave it to a friend to play with. I will say though that the pigmentation was on point. As you can see in the swatch, the color is rich, smooth, and buttery.

2 // Jersey Shore Cosmetics Mongongo Lip Conditioner – This lip balm was actually the product I was the most excited to try. There’s just something about a good lip balm I can’t resist, and I love having multiple open ones on hand. And as any decent lip balm, it works well as a primer for lipstick or as a midday relief for dry lips.

3 // Jelly Pong Pong Bare Necessities Highighting Pencil – I stopped using highlighting pencils lately because they never look like highlighters on my fair skin. This one didn’t work for me either; as you can see in the swatch it looks very very pink on me, and definitely not in a “highlighting” way. I think this will work better for someone with medium and dark skin tones, but for me it’s more of a color corrector.

4 // Nanacoco Jumbo Eye & Lip Pencil – Eyeshadow sticks are one of my staples for a no-fuss makeup look. They are easy to apply, and as quick to blend using nothing but fingers. I don’t wear them daily, but whenever I’m in a rush I always reach for my favorites from either Jouer, Laura Mercier, or By Terry. Nanacoco pencils are a lot more affordable than what I’m using, so this might be a good starter brand to try. Again, the color is just not my favorite. I have fair olive skin, and warm green shades make me look bruised. However, I really liked the texture of the product, it was very easy to blend and I actually had a hard time removing the swatch from my arm, so it has good staying power, too.

5 // Daily Concepts Exfoliating Body Scrubber – I was hoping for one of these to pop up in my beauty boxes, because I needed to toss my old one. I tried other products from Daily Concepts, and they always provided high quality and good performance, all while being quite affordable. This scrubber is also equipped with a special smart label: when the color fades, that means it’s time to get a new one.

6 // BONUS! De La Cruz Arnica Salve – This travel-sized jar of arnica salve was an extra sixth item in the box, but it was actually one of my favorites this month. It’s a rich and thick healing balm that works well as an all-over treatment for dry feet, heels, elbows, and lips.

BOTTOM LINE:

That’s it for my quick Beauty Box 5 May 2017 box review, I hope you enjoyed it! Although it’s hard to pick makeup colors that will suit everyone, I feel like Beauty Box 5 did their best in forcing us to get out of the neutral rut with these colorful and bold shades. It was also nice to try out new brands and formulas, so now I have a better idea how the products I currently own compare to other similar ones on the market. The absolute standouts for me this month were the bonus Arnica salve, and the lip balm, with the smart scrubber as a close second.
