Beauty Box 5 June 2016

The theme of Beauty Box 5 June 2016 box – Made in the Shade – couldn’t be more perfect for me, after all that’s all I do when we go out to the pool or the beach since a) I don’t like tanning and b) my skin is crazy sensitive to the sun [I went into more detail about it in this blog post, if you’re interested]. So as you might have already guessed, the selection of samples prompts us to take a little break from the sun and enjoy a few quiet moments in a cool place.

HOW IT WORKS:

For $12/month subscribers will receive a box filled with a carefully selected mixture of five travel-sized, deluxe-sized and full-sized cosmetic products from luxury brands, commonly known brands, niche brands, eco-conscious and even vegan brands. Aimed at introducing women to new cosmetic products and educating them on best practices, Beauty Box 5 scours the market to find the best products for your lifestyle. Click here to subscribe.

CONTENTS:

1 // Manna Kadar Radiance Bronzer & Highlighter [$24, available here] is a really pretty duo of complementing shimmery shades. The formula is smooth and buttery, and the color was super easy to pick up with all of my cheek brushes. Because both pans are quite shimmery I probably wouldn’t use this bronzer for contouring, but rather to give my cheeks some summer glow.

2 // Varsaspa Gradual Tanning Face Moisturizer [$35, available here] – I received this sample, two of them actually, in my May Glossybox and already gave it a try. This self-tanner worked remarkably well and the color came out very natural. I also appreciated that it didn’t have that typical icky self-tanner scent that lingers on the skin for days. This one is winner in my book!

3 // Pur~lisse Blue Lotus Treatment Sheet Mask [$8, available here] – I love sheet masks, they are my jam! Getting this one in my June box was a total treat, and I look forward to using it in the upcoming weeks. While I am generally not a huge fan of Pur~lisse products, I really loved their eye serum, so maybe this mask will be another winner. We’ll have to wait and see. If you tried it, let me know what you thought!

4 // Sweep Oval Contour & Highlight Brush [$15, available here] is supposed to be a dupe for iconic Artis oval brushes. I compared the bristles on this one to my Artis Oval 10 brush and naturally the softness of Sweep pales in comparison. Also, this dupe sheds like crazy, so while it will probably do the job just fine, the experience is just not the same. It’s like using a beautyblender vs beautyblender dupe, if you know what I mean.

5 // Prestige Cosmetics Brow & Lash Brush [$3.25, available here] is a handy little tool that should be present in every girl’s brush stash. This dual-headed brush is very basic and inexpensive, but it has everything you need to comb those brows and lashes. I quite like it.

BOTTOM LINE:

The only thing I hated was Sweep Oval brush with its pokey shedding bristles, but overall this was a well-curated box and I enjoyed everything else. I’m definitely glad to have another tube of Versaspa self-tanner, because it’s probably the best self-tanner for my pale face I tried lately. Natural color? Check. Doesn’t stink? Check. Long-lasting? Check. I also look forward to trying that Pur~lisse sheet mask, even though this brand’s skincare in general doesn’t excite me much.
