In April, Beauty Box 5 showered us with fabulous beauty samples! The theme – “Shades of Beauty” – is very appropriate for the amount of makeup products we got.

BH Cosmetics California Collection Eyeshadow Palette |
Jergens Natural Glow Moisturizer |
Bonne Bell Lip Definer |
Nicka K New York Hydro Lipstick in “Daring” |
Blum Naturals All Purpose Cleansing Wipes |
BH Cosmetics California Collection Eyeshadow Palette – I actually received this palette sample before. It features three pretty shimmery shades: a vivid purple, a bronzey beige and a golden yellow. The colors aren’t super pigmented on their own, but they show up and stay put really well if applied over primer.
Nicka K New York Hydro Lipstick in Daring – Daring is a hot red, it’s very moisturizing and feels pleasantly buttery on the lips. It’s not the kind of color I’d wear every day, but it looks nice and vampy – perfect to rock on special occasions.
Blum Naturals All Purpose Cleansing Wipes – There were variations of these sent out, and I got the citrus variety. They are really multi-purpose, because so far I have used them to wipe my face, hands and even my computer desk. They actually work surprisingly well!
Bonne Bell Lip Definer – This nude shade is good for altering the shape of the lips, but I found the pencil itself too hard. The color payoff is decent, but the application just didn’t feel very comfortable.
Jergens Natural Glow Moisturizer – You know me, I don’t tan and don’t use self-tanners, so I’ll probably throw in this sample as an extra with my sister’s other gifts. She used to tan a lot, but now she mostly uses self-tanners. Good for her, the real sun is bad after all! 🙂 I think she will like this lotion, I heard a lot of good things about it.
THE VERDICT
This box was more makeup-based than most other months, which I’m sure made a lot of subscribers very happy. Personally, I’m glad to receive an extra sample of BH palette, because I actually use the gold and brown colors a lot, and the previous one I got already has dents in them.

Love your swatches! The liner I got was fuchsia and I think I got a different lippie shade. Overall the same, a great box!
I think this is the first time I’ve seen that everyone got the same brands, but different colors or scents of certain things. It’s actually kinda fun to see all the different lippie colors and variations! I enjoyed my box this month, too.
I would have LOVED the nude liner. I did like my box too!
Am I being too picky if I say an extra $4 in value just doesn’t seem worth it?
Hi Kimmi — Not picky at all! I think the value is lower because the RV on some of the makeup isn’t overly inflated.
Awesome swatches. I was not a fan of the BH palette sample when I got it in my ipsy bag… but you make it look fabulous.
I believe Walgreens and a few other stores had a display with those 3-day Jergens samplers not too long ago. I don’t know, I always feel almost cheated when subscription boxes include free sample foil packets. I don’t like paying for free promotional items. Especially since you can get a travel size with more than twice as much for under $2.
That being said, the palette looks awesome, and the formula for the lipstick sounds great!
Hi Mandy! — I know how you feel, sometimes I feel a bit “cheated” as well when I get a sample that I could have easily picked up on my own for a couple bucks, or even for free. I guess this is the essence of sampling services, we essentially pay for the membership and not necessarily for the products themselves.
I would only get the box for the BH Cosmetics palette. Very pretty!
