Beauty Bar Sample Society April 2014 Review, Pictures

April Sample Society box was in line with what I’d expect from the company – good quality products from mid-range to high-end brands. What I didn’t expect was the pink eyeliner! Have you tried one of those before? How do you make it work?

Butter London WINK Eye Pencil in “Pistol Pink”
Tatcha Original Aburatorigami
Tatcha Original Aburatorigami – opened

Butter London WINK Eye Pencil in Pistol Pink – There were different colors sent out, and I got the pink one, which is probably the least wearable from the bunch, in my opinion. I kind of have an idea how I could use it, but I’m not realy sure if I like the color enough to justify all the hassle. I can’t imagine gifting it, so I’ll probably end up selling it on eBay or something. Have you ever used a pink eyeliner? How did you make it work?

H2O Plus Aquafirm Micro-Collagen Moisturizer – I heard good things about this moisturizer, but I probably won’t get to try it anytime soon, since I have two other full-sized creams that I need to test and review first, so I will just keep it in my travel bag for now. Did you try this one?

Illume Anemone Travel Tin Candle – The fragrance of this candle is so nostalgic! It actually smells exactly like my dad’s old shaving cream that he used when I was a kid 🙂 It was oddly floral, but I always liked it. Ahhh, memories!

Jane Iredale Lash Conditioner – I used to buy this lash primer/conditioner regularly, but lately I haven’t been using it much. It’s a good product to extend and condition your lashes, and it also works well to make them less brittle, since some mascaras can be harsh.

Tatcha Original Aburatorigami – Oh hey, guys, look, a new brand! Just kidding, I’ve probably buzzed your ears off talking about Tatcha over the past few weeks [spoiler alert: stay tuned for the giveaway!]. I have two packs stashed away in my purses already, so I will probably just keep this one on my table for midday touchups. I like that these papers don’t mess up my makeup like some others, but they aren’t super absorbent either, leaving just enough oil to make sure the skin isn’t overdried.

THE VERDICT
I thought this was overall a really nice box with a good selection of makeup, skincare and lifestyle products. I  just wish I had gotten a different color of eyeliner, because it looked like it’s easy to apply and blend.

The box looks great, but I agree – pink liner isn’t something I would use either and I have yet to see a look done with it that I liked.

I LOVE this box. One of my favorite subscription of all. I got the teal pencil from Butter London. The pink is really pretty though. I wonder if you could use it as a lip pencil and stuff. I literally just went and bought some Tatcha Cleansing Oil because of you, so I was pumped to get those blot papers in my box. lol.. Great post.

OHMYGOSH! This box is such a win! Oh! and I use pink eyeliners the same I would a black one! I line the top lash line with it. I either use it as a pop of color with a neutral look, or as part of a more colorful look!

You can use the pink liner in conjunction with a black liner. thin black line and then add the pink to the top for a graphic liner look. You can also use t change or create a new color like purple for example with layering a blue shadow over it.

  20. April 24, 2014 / 7:18 am

I think the eye pencil would be amazing with a white shadow! 🙂

  21. April 24, 2014 / 12:46 pm

Eugenia just did a look I really liked with pink eyeliner, a yellow eyeshadow and a bit of pink shadow. I really liked it! This looks like a great subscription box, I may look into it. I’d love to try anything from Tatcha!

I love this subscription! I just received my first box this month and I’m really pleased with it. I’m not sure how I managed to overlook it before. My eye pencil was in black although I would have preferred pink! It would have been fun and I already have far too many black eye liners.

Hi Amanda! — I’m so glad you like your box! Sample Society so far has been the most consistent subscription service in terms of shipping, customer service and overall quality of samples. I wish you got a pink color, it’s really pretty to look at 🙂 I was hoping for a green or brown.
