Bar Soaps to Try This Summer

I’ll let you in on a little secret – I hoard bar soaps! While I mostly use liquid body washes in the shower, I really like the feeling of washing my hands with an old-fashioned bar. Long gone are the days when harsh moisture-stripping formulas were the only options you could find at the stores, now bar soap lovers have more choices than they could possibly wish for!

Here are just some of the soaps I picked up recently that you might want to try as well!

I was sent three different scents to try: Jasmine Pearl, Shea Buttermilk, and Cocoa Butter that is actually already sitting by the sink. The fragrances are pleasant but not overwhelming, like it often happens with most scented soaps. I love that the bars are oval-shaped, which makes them easier to hold and to use.

Recently I bought a full-sized bar of L’Occitane Extra-Gentle Soap in Verbena scent, and a travel-sized bar in Milk, which I sometimes use for the face to take off extra stubborn makeup. It’s actually one of the few soaps that don’t irritate my skin when used for makeup removal, so I am not super adventurous here. The verbena scent is very strong and overpowering! It can fill the room with its bitter citrusy fragrance in a snap, and sometimes I even use them as potpourri 🙂

Let’s just say it’s going to be my special bar of soap that I will use when I’m feeling fancy.

I also hoard bar soaps, and use them in the shower when I don’t feel like messing with a shower gel. My fave of the moment is TBS Satsuma. I also like the fancy discount soaps at TJMaxx and the like, and just picked up a lemon scented one the other day. All the Yardley soaps, actually, ALL the soaps you picked up sound wonderful. I love the smell of fancy soaps.

Ooh, I love TBS Satsuma too! And those fancy TJ Maxx soaps are always so fun to sniff 🙂

I’m with you, girl, I love bar soaps and I always have a stash. For some reason, I always feel cleaner after using soap and then I follow up with shower gel or cream just for the scent or moisturizing benefit. I still have a bar of pomegranate soap from Farmacia Santa Maria Novella in Florence waiting for me. And next weekend I intend to buy some handmade soaps from Daphne at Nature Island Botanicals at the annual craft festival. And I love L’Occitane’s soap. I want to try the “new” soaps from Yardley too

Same with me Allison, sometimes I just crave that squeaky clean feeling and reach for bar soaps instead of liquid body washes. That pomegranate soap sounds wonderful!

Me too, girl! I also love how fragrant they are 🙂

Ok that Sweet Almond soap sounds awesome. I have bar soaps from a couple small businesses that I love!

    • August 19, 2015 / 10:03 am

It’s definitely the best dupe for L’Occitane’s Sweet Almond scent I found so far, and so much cheaper too!

Oh man I’m tired of the super harsh bar soaps. I’ll try out some of the ones you mention here!

    • August 19, 2015 / 10:03 am

Yikes, me too, they’re all so drying and filled with lye. I love me a good gentle soap!

I’m not really a bar soap person but the sweet almond sounds nice

    • August 19, 2015 / 10:03 am

      It smells absolutely divine 🙂

The only bar soap I use is Reviva Labs seaweed soap for exfoliation, but the sweet almond sounds nice–I love that scent!

    • August 19, 2015 / 10:03 am

Ooh, that one sounds great! I may have to reach out to my rep and ask to try it out.

I like an unscented bar soap and always have those in my house. Neutrogena and Dove both make nice ones. They aren’t fancy but they are gentle.

    • August 19, 2015 / 10:04 am

My Mom adores both Dove and Neutrogena, those two have been her staples for decades.

I always feel so old-fashioned when I tell people I love bar soap 🙂

I’ve tried Yardley London and loved them! I’m also addicted to L’Occitane – but haven’t tried their bar soap yet!

    • August 19, 2015 / 10:07 am

They are so nice, aren’t they? And the prices won’t break the bank 🙂

I like that L’Occitane bar soap. I use it for something else ‘tho. I’ll whisper to you next time, hahaha

    • August 19, 2015 / 10:08 am

Well their formula is gentle enough for the face, so not surprising that it works for the whole body 🙂

I love bar soaps ! But I use the prettier kind for decoration and they would look amazing

    • August 19, 2015 / 10:09 am

So glad I’m not the only one 🙂 I feel like everyone around me only uses liquid soaps these days.

I find this fascinating. I HATE bar soap. I don’t like to swish my dirt around on a soap bar.

    • August 19, 2015 / 10:10 am

Haha, well, to each their own, right? I really like bar soaps and use them every day 🙂

I guess liquid soaps in the shower and by the sink just seem more convenient…but this does remind me I need to check out TJ Maxx, I love the random bottles of hand soap I get there; the bigger, the better!! I got a couple bar soaps in the latest Allure box, which I may try for cleaning makeup brushes. I love the Beauty Blender solid cleanser, just not the price. Then saw bar soap mentioned by some makeup artist and I was like, why the heck don’t I ever think of these obvious things?!? lol!

    • August 19, 2015 / 10:12 am

Right? That’s a genius tip, and I only found out about it after watching some random youtube video! I think they say that any gentle soap will do, like Dove or Cetaphil. That Beautyblender soap is such a rip off, but it works so well! Their liquid cleanser is also magical, I have no idea how it works but it makes my sponges squeaky clean in 5 seconds.

I am not a bar soap person, but man… I definitely would enjoy these I’m sure. These sound great.

I feel like bar soaps have come a long way and now there are so many awesome ones to choose from. I got into them after buying a few from LUSH to try.
