Maybelline Color Show Brocades Gilded Rose Swatches, Review and Nail Art

Purchased by Me

I spotted a lone bottle of this beautiful rose gold glitter at my local Meijer while casually passing by the beauty aisle, and I just couldn’t resist buying it, because I have never seen a glitter quite like this one, and because I feel like my collection is seriously lacking glitters.

Gilded Rose [which also goes by Knitted Gold in the UK] came out as part of Gilded in Gold Brocades Limited Edition Collection, and can best be described as a duochrome glitter topper, featuring smalled gold particles that create a base for mugger hexagonal rose gold pieces.

Thick formula is jam-packed with glitter of various sizes, and the opacity is achieved after just two coats. In these swatches I will be wearing three, just because my nails are normally thin, so I always try to add an extra layer of polish to help with my bending problem.

After I took the initial batch of pictures, I thought I’d play around with my freshly painted nails a bit longer and see what I can do to spice up this already fantastic shade. I don’t know if this can be called Nail Art per se, just because all I did was put some more glitter on top of that glitter [glitterception!!], but I believe the final result came out pretty festive 🙂

It was very easy to do, too: I basically added a few strokes of Zoya Chyna on my middle and ring fingers, then topped them with random SOPI gold glitter, and swiped another coat of Seche Vite to seal it all. Simple, isn’t it?

Now, if you’re wondering if this glitter is one of those that would be a pain to remove – no worries, because it pretty much removes itself 🙂 Unfortunately, this gorgeous color has its drawbacks – crazy chipping – because the rose gold pieces catch on everything, like clothes, sheets, and towels.

All Maybelline Color Show polishes are free from formaldehyde, toluene and DBP.

What do you think about this look? Does red go with gold/red gold?

The gold alone is beautiful, but I also love the combination of it with the red.

I totally understand, Laura! I get those kicks too from time to time, like one day it’s all about purple polishes, then another day it’s metallics 🙂

On its own it’s gorgeous but it looks great as a topper!

Thanks, Mai! Too bad it chips almost immediately, but it’s a very pretty color to wear for a day 🙂

I just saw Scrangie’s post on this glitter yesterday – apparently it chips off mega-fast. It’s so pretty, though.. Maybe if I catch it on sale!

I agree with Scrangie, it definitely chips ultra-fast, but if you can get it on sale it’s totally worth it 🙂

Thanks Honey! Try checking your local Rite Aid, if you have one in the area, I heard that’s where most people got theirs.

Is this really limited edition? In a walgreens in NY it’s on the perm shelf with it’s own name tag.

Thank you for the swatches. Looksxso pretty. I am a glitter freak, have so much, and you are correct… this color and combo of glittersxis so unusual. Walgreens is $4.19. If Rite Aid had it it would be $3.99, but they didn’t have it there anyway. I’ll wait for a sale, but this polish is haunting me!

The display was labeled LE so I’m guessing it was LE at least at that time. Maybe they decided to make it part of their permanent collection, due to popular demand? Good luck hunting down this shade, it’s gorgeous and a worthy addition to any collection!
