I’ve been on a LUSH kick lately, and blogging about it made me want to buy more from them. Today is Valentine’s Day, and it really doesn’t matter if you have someone to celebrate it with or not, there’s just no reason not to spoil yourself a little bit 😉
As always, LUSH released a special Limited Edition Valentine’s Day collection of items, that includes The Kiss lip gloss, Tender if the Night massage bar, Close to You massage bar, Love Locket bath bomb, Prince Charming body wash, and Neon Love soap. In addition to individual items, there are also three new gift sets: Lots of Love, Neon Love and Toucan Love.

I ended up purchasing the lip gloss just to try it and both massage bars, because I am a huge fan of those! In this review I’m going to talk about The Kiss, which is listed as a lip balm on LUSH website, but clearly says “lip gloss” on the tin.
According to LUSH, The Kiss “has it all; vegan, preservative-free, highly moisturizing and softening, subtle color and lots of shine.” Despite a slightly high price tag for such a tiny quarter-sized tin, I was immediately drawn to this product, because it contains no mineral oil and no preservatives. It’s almost edible!
The packaging is a simple aluminum tin with a twist-off cap, kinda similar to Cargo makeup tins, if you know what I mean. The fragrance reminds me of strawberries, however there are actually none in the formula, which makes me think my nose is smelling the mix of organic agave syrup and sicilian mandarin oil. The application is your standard dip-and-slather, and the product spreads evenly across your lips. I used my finger, but you can use brushes if you want, the effect will be the same.
The pigmentation is very sheer and adds a very lightly tinted pink sheen, providing that beautiful your-lips-but-better effect. Not only does it look and smell good, it also feels absolutely fantastic! Thick and oily texture glides on like butter, instantly moisturizing even the driest spots, and evening out the surface by masking those little lip lines.
The sheen lasts a couple hours [without eating, and very careful drinking], but the moisturizing effect actually stayed with me all day. Those dry spots didn’t become dry again as soon as the product rubbed off, making me think all those organic oils and extracts worked hard to improve the condition of my lips.
As awesome as this lip gloss sounds, it does have a con: the packaging. Constant finger dipping invites bacteria, and the lack of preservatives in the formula provides perfect breeding ground for all those germs. The redeeming quality is the size of the thing; you are likely to use it up before the pot gets too gross.

THE VERDICT
The Kiss is a fabulous product for anyone looking to physically improve the condition of their chapped lips as well as making their lip lines less visible. However, I would recommend using it up quickly, because constant finger-dipping invites bacteria.

I’ve yet to try LUSH – they need to have a sale, so I can buy all the LUSH! lol. I like the look of this gloss, but I’m with you. no pots! (Ever see the movie The Incredibles? “No Capes!” “No Pots!”) lol
Unfortunately, the only sale they normally have is their annual Boxing Day sale, and the products included in it are from their Christmas lineup. They’re so popular, that they don’t feel the need to offer any other discounts =/
That adds a great shine! 🙂
Indeed! That lovely muted shimmer adds a lot, and makes the lips look plumper 🙂
Love this gloss as well!
It’s great, isn’t it? 🙂 The amount of shimmer is just perfect, so you don’t walk around looking like a disco ball.
It’s so pretty on you
Thank you!

I didn’t get to try Santa lip gloss, because it was completely sold out when I finally shopped the sale section. Honey Trap sounds divine!
Ooh, I like the color it adds!
Indeed, it’s a subtle tint for that your lips but better” look 🙂
Love love love the candy in the pic! I wanna try that!
Haha, that’s heart-shaped cinnamon candy 🙂
Definitely adding this to my must try list! Love it!
It’s worth trying for sure, it adds a lovely tint and slightly plumps the lips to make the lip lines less visible 🙂
I have and love this!
Awesome! Good to know that this product is receiving so much love from the customers 🙂
I would probably wear/use it at bedtime. Not a fan of finger-dipping either.
Exactly, maybe LUSH will consider making it in a stick form, since this is a very popular complaint.
I love the shine it gives off 🙂
Me too 🙂 It’s very subtle, and really makes the surface of my lips look more even and plump.
This gloss is one of my faves from LUSH!
Awesome! It’s now among my favorites, too 🙂
Wow, this did an incredible job of hydrating you lips!
I know right? And the time difference between these two shots is probably just over one minute, so that gives you an idea how fast it works 🙂
It’s really pretty on you.
Thank you, Shelley 🙂
