A couple months ago Lancome released French Ballerine Collection for Spring 2014. The collection was inspired by tutus and ballet slippers, and includes mostly shades of pink, brown, coral and some purple. I normally don’t buy high end makeup, but I remembered that I still had an unused gift card from Christmas, and decided to finally redeem it. I bought two products from this collection: a lipstick that I will be reviewing in another post, and this lip gloss.
“The first LancΓ΄me Gloss that truly loves your lips: unprecedented shine wraps lips with color and addictive comfort. Available now in six Glossy Nudes, this gloss combines color with 6 hours of moisture in an easy click-to-open package. The New Expert Applicator hugs lips, resulting in a smooth and line-free vinyl lip look.”

Lancome Gloss in Love in “Rose Oscar” – curved wand and arm swatch |
Rose Oscar is just the type of gloss I’ve been looking for – extremely faint gold shimmer with a soft hint of color make it a fine addition to my stash. The packaging is very unique, and it was the first thing I noticed about the product: the cap is not your typical twist-off, instead you press a button and the wand pops up. The wand shape is also very interesting – it’s a curved doe foot that scoops just enough product out of the tube, and ensures easy and comfortable application without needing a mirror.
Rose Oscar is best described as a medium peachy pink with subtle gold shimmer. The shimmer is actually so fine, you won’t even notice it’s there, but it works well to reflect the light, making the lips appear smoother and plumper. The formula is fabulous! It’s smooth and non-sticky, unlike any other lip gloss I tried so far – it’s like lip butter, thick and truly moisturizing. The longevity was surprisingly good too, I wore it for solid 4 hours before needing to touch up, which is above average for lip glosses. However, the company promised at least 6 hours of wear, a claim this gloss didn’t quite live up to, but seriously, 4 hours for a lip gloss is already great, wouldn’t you say?

THE VERDICT
Gloss in Love Rose Oscar makes a great base color for any makeup collection, with it’s long-lasting, non-sticky and moisturizing formula. The packaging deserves special praise – snap cap and curved doe foot applicator make it easy to handle, even without a mirror.

Ooooooh this is such a beautiful shade. Very natural and pretty. Right up my alley. Thanks for sharing!!!
Hi Jamie — Glad you like this shade, too! I picked it up after seeing some swatches online, but I thought the formula would be slightly more pigmented. It looks very natural and feels comfy on the lips, so I guess it worked out after all.
so pretty! i would love to try some lance products out.
Hi Kristyn — I’m with you, I liked the whole French Ballerine collection, I think it was very young and fresh, unlike some of their releases that are clearly targeted for a more mature customer.
It’s a nice pink. Great for everyday use.
Hi there! — Glad you liked this shade of pink, too! It gives the lips a nice subtle rosy sheen and the buttery formula lasts a long time. It is indeed a great basic color for everyday use.
Looks like a great everyday pink natural gloss.
Hi Norah — I agree with you, this is a very lovely everyday pink gloss, and it looks so pretty over lipstick!
This is so beautiful on you! I love Lancome.
Hi Justina — I’m sort of new to Lancome, I mostly tried their skincare, but not much in terms of makeup. I think this gloss was a good introduction, because at least now I know that I really like their lip gloss formula. Which of their other products would you recommend to try?
I would skip it, but I prefer more pigmented glosses
Hi Phyrra — I understand, I actually expected it to be a tad bit more pigmented, based on another blogger’s review. But the formula is very nice and buttery, so I thought I should keep it after all. It also layers really well over lipsticks.
Looks fabulous; I always like having a light pink gloss available. Right now I’m using Laura Mercier Lip Glace in Opal.
What kind of camera do you use? Your pictures are fantastic!
Light pink is such a universal color, I really think it’s a staple in just about any girl’s makeup bag. I haven’t tried LM Lip Glace lippies yet, but I heard so many good things about them!
I use Canon Rebel T1i, it’s almost 5 years old now but I think it still works well π And thank you! <3
It’s such a sweet, delicate gloss. Very pretty!
Thank you, Noelle, I’m glad you like it, too π
Really pretty color on you! I need to check these glosses out!
Hi Amber — I’m happy that you like this color on me! My lips naturally aren’t very pigmented, so subtle shades like this one show up truer to color. I wish it was a little more pigmented, though π
I’m glad you did a pix of it on your lips, because up until that point, I thought it was just ok. Girl, it looks amazing on you, I wouldn’t have guessed it was just lipgloss. Of course, it’s expensive lipgloss, but still.
Hi Nidia — I thought a closeup was a good way to show this lip gloss in full glory, after all it’s a subtle color and you can see it better up close. The lip gloss is expensive, indeed, but I don’t think I have tried any similar formulas from cheaper brands yet.
Pretty, but I prefer more opaque color
Hi Leticia — I personally prefer a more opaque color myself, but I just couldn’t resist the buttery formula of this lip gloss, and it layers really well over lipsticks.
That is a really pretty color.
Hi Melody — I’m glad you also like the color! I thought it was very subtle and versatile, whether it’s worn alone or on top of other lipsticks.
This so pretty. I’ve been on a lippy kick as of late. I so want to try a few of these.
Hi Ashley — Lancome makes these glosses in many other colors, and most of them are more pigmented than Rose Oscar. I’m sure you will find the one you end up loving!
That’s a pretty everyday lip color!
Hi Aprill — I’m glad that you like this color, too! I agree with you, it works so well as a subtle hint of color for everyday wear, but it also adds some sexy sheen over darker lipstick for the night out. Overall, this is a really nice and versatile gloss.
this shade is gorgeous on you. I like glosses that are much more opaque but I love the color.
Hi Honey — I’m with you, I normally prefer more pigmented lippies, but this one lured me in π And thank you!
this is so natural and beautiful! Love it on you!
Hi Brooke — I agree, it’s definitely very natural-looking, and doesn’t make the lips look overly greasy. So happy that you think this color looks good on me!
This looks so lovely on you!!
Hi Engenia — Thank you, I’m glad that you think this shade suits me! π
Such a pretty, soft and sweet color! Love it!
Hi there! — I’m so glad you like this color, too! This shade of pink is so versatile, and can be worn alone or layered over lipstick for non-sticky glossy effect.
I have 5 of the Gloss In Love and Rose Oscar was my latest purchase–it’s more pigmented on my pale lips and I adore the whole collection! You should try the new Lip Lovers–same packaging and super smooth and hydrating!
Hi there! — Ooh, I’m so happy to hear that you own several of these! I will definitely give Lip Lovers a try, but I’ll probably wait for a promotion first. Thanks for the suggestion!
This is a gorgeous shade
Hi Betzy — I’m glad that you also like this versatile rosy shade. It works so well alone as well as layered over lipsticks!
I LOVE these pictures! π That gloss looks so pretty
Hi Laura — Thank you for complimenting my pictures, I think the background is perfect for that lip gloss π
This gloss is so gorgeous and your pictures are lovely!
Hi Helen — I’m glad that you like the gloss, too, it’s definitely a great everyday color with comfortable non-sticky formula. I liked it a lot, so maybe I will try some of their more pigmented shades in the future. And thank you for your kind words about my photos, it means a lot π
Gorgeous!! This color is so beautiful. I am definitely snagging one of these lip glosses. Alisia | Some Writers
Hi Alisia — So happy that you like this gloss! I’m a big fan of the color, too, but even a bigger fan of the formula – it’s unlike any other gloss I’ve tried. I think you’re going to love it!
