RickyColor Unpaid Intern Coordinating Kit Review, Pictures, Swatches

pr sample

I managed to squeeze both makeup and nails in one post, so this is like a double review! Today I’m sharing swatches and thoughts on RickyColor Coordinating Kit in Unpaid Intern [fun name, isn’t it?].

RickyColor Coordinating Kit in “Unpaid Intern”

RickyColor Nail Polish in “Unpaid Intern” and RickyColor Top Coat

The kit contains four products: iPhone5 Case with “Unpaid Intern” color print, RickyColor nail polish in “Unpaid Intern”, RickyColor Topcoat nail treatment, and RickyColor City Stick in “Unpaid Intern”.

RickyColor iPhone5 Case in “Unpaid Intern”

The iPhone Case is made with bendable plastic, it’s the kind of material and quality that you’d find at souvenir shops; I saw similar cases custom made with people’s family photos or pets on them. I’m guessing if someone was a huge fan of this particular color, it would be a fun idea to match their phone case with nail polish.

On the nails: RickyColor Nail Polish in “Unpaid Intern” sealed with RickyColor Top Coat

Unpaid Intern polish color is part of RickyColor in-house nail polish lineup, which I reviewed a couple weeks ago. The formula is opaque after two coats, and goes on smoothly and evenly [as you can see in the swatch above]. I topped it with RickyColor Topcoat nail treatment, which gave my nails a nice glossy finish. This duo lasted four days on my nails before the polish started chipping.

RickyColor City Stick in “Unpaid Intern” – arm swatch and lips closeup

Last but not least, the kit contained Unpaid Intern RickyColor City Stick, which can be described as a frosted light pink. The color goes on evenly, without accentuating lip lines, and the formula seems fairly pigmented. The twist up stick itself was easy to use even without the mirror, and I found that very convenient. The color lasted six hours on my lips before showing signs of fading, and that’s after several cups of tea and a few light snacks. I was afraid that frosted pink might make me look too 70’s, but I think I can actually make it work! What do you think?

P.S.: The lipstick contains mineral oil, I thought I’d mention that in case some of you avoid this particular ingredient in your cosmetics.

THE VERDICT
This is a great idea for a company to make coordinating kits like this one, because I know a LOT of people who would love to have matching nails, makeup and phone cases with their favorite colors. All of the products in the kit performed well, and lived up

That’s right, Allison, RickyColor is their in-house line of nail polish and makeup.

Cute! I like the nail polish. The lippie looks good on you, but it might be a little light for me. Nothing wrong with a little frosted lip.

Unpaid intern, what a satire. But it’s true and it’s happening! Catchy name aside, you made the lippy look “paid”, LOL. You’re gorgeous what else can I say?!

  18. May 6, 2014 / 9:11 am

This looks like a nice kit. Loving the nail polish and lippie shade, but for me personally the iPhone5 case is pretty useless, since I don´t own iPhone 😛

  19. May 6, 2014 / 9:28 am

Pretty shades! I always get so bummed when companies only include Apple cases since many of us don’t own them.

    • May 6, 2014 / 9:41 am

I know how you feel! Although I do have an old iPhone 4s that could squeeze into that case, I haven’t used it since I got the new Nexus.

Thank you Betzy, you are so sweet 🙂

Where do I start? First, I had no idea Ricky’s had their own cosmetic line. They were one of my favorite stores when I lived in NYC. Second, what a brilliant idea to package coordinating lipstick and nail polish. My Mom was always matchy matchy with her lips and tips so I know there are women out there that are loving this. And third, that color is just gorgeous! Love the shimmer on the lippy.

    • May 7, 2014 / 9:03 pm

I definitely added Ricky’s to my “places to go” list when I visit NY, the brand just seems so young and fun! I’m glad you like the idea of this kit, and just like yours, my own mom was into matchy matchy thing 🙂
